Always felt that Mayweather would easily decision Margarito, so my opinion of the fight hasn't changed. However, I think Margarito's loss sort of refutes the point made by Margo fans that Floyd was "ducking" or was "scared" of Margarito. Margarito is and always have been way too slow for Mayweather. He applies relentless pressure, but he is ultimately an attrition fighter. For attrition fighters to be successful, the have to land shots early on to wear an opponent out. Margarito couldn't do this with Mayweather and the fight would have likely been a boring one-sided decision. As to why Mayweather never fought him, Margarito was never a viable opponent to enhance his career IMO. It was a lose-lose situation. If Mayweather easily beat him, everyone would say that Margarito was an overrated fighter whose most impressive win was over the likes of Cintron. Realistically, this fight would have not been a big draw to the casual boxing fans. Neither was Baldomir, but they could at least sell the "Floyd is fighting the undisputed Welterweight Champion" angle. Floyd was looking for big marketable fights and this one was not on the radar. Margarito is an exciting fighter, but ultimately he lacks too much in the skill department. Heart, will, and chin can only carry you so far. Floyd is too skilled, and more importantly, too smart for Margarito. I have always felt that Cotto, Williams, and Mosley presented far more challenges for Floyd for varying reasons. Margarito was never an elite fighter, too one dimensional, in my opinion.
Actually, I tend to agree with his statement. I'm sure Margo would land some solid shots here and there though, but very much doubt he could land successive blows, and so I don't think the fight would ever be in doubt. Margo is just too immobile and predictable for such a fast/skilled/accurate boxer like Mayweather. Somehow I doubt Mayweather would stop him though, because PBF is too concerned about not losing compared to getting spectacular wins. I wish PBF would really open up more on his opponents though. He could have turned up the heat more against DLH, but never did. He's too content to just get the victory, and in the case of DLH - nearly blew it by letting it be too close. He DID KTFO Hatton though - which made me jump for joy..
Floyd would have won and they would be added big time to his legasy...Now its Mosley who has the win and Mosley at 37 may still be able to beat Floyd
:goodYep.Glad you and Juggy agree,as i thought i could be flayed as an excuse making nuthugger on this point. He wasnt the same fighter as Cintron Cotto or even PW.THAT guy would have shown up against Floyd IMHO. Complacent is the word. Being totally focused and determined was a big part of the reason why he could take so much incredible punishment in prior fights.:good
Yeah because Margarito's insane skills were apparent Saturday night as he hit the canvas and was being bullied by a man half his size handpicked for him as a "tune-up". The fraud is the hypejob that got exposed and hasn't accomplished jack**** other than cheating to KO yet another smaller man in Cotto. :deal
Scar,Shane was brave enough to try and capitalise on Margo's flaws and triumphed;Floyd wasnt. Its easy to point out how limited he looked now,but its totally Shane's triumph.Shane's glory. He believed and dared. The Kudos is all for Shane, and cant be hijacked for Floyd. He wouldnt have dared attempt to brutally expose Margarito like that,so he doesnt bask in Shane's reflected glory here. Not a bit of it.
If the Mayweather/ Margarito match would have happened at the same time/ place as the Cotto/ Margarito fight....There isn't a doubt to me that Margarito would have beaten Floyd, or mosley! I dunno...It just wasnt the same guy. Maybe to much of a beating, maybe he didn't train hard enough, maybe he underestimated Shane...I dunno, but he wasn't half the man he was in the Cotto fight. He was an unstoppable beast that wouldn't be denied. Even adding body shots, and clinches I still don't think anybody could have denied him a win that night.
Margo would always look to an elite defensive counter puncher like PBF. It was obvious before the Mosley fight to anyone who really knew boxing. He can't deal with movement, he plods, has no jab, slow hands and is wide open. PBF makes him look like a clown in the ring. He would have no answer for PBF's speed, ring generalship, defense or movement. PBF wins by wide UD. I doubt Margo would win a round against him.:deal
As I have stated numerous times in the past - PBF easily beats Margarito. Shane Mosley is stronger than Mayweather, but at 37 also slower and with far less adept defense. Shane has about 10 pounds on Floyd and is roughly the same height. Mayweather told y'all :yep and a lot of people needed to see a vastly superior boxer with still solid speed and excellent ring smarts beat the snot out of Margarito before they started to clue in. Pacquaio gives Floyd a much tougher fight than Tony Margarito. That's a certainty.
Welcome back Radar!:good We tried telling these idiots for years about the fraud that was Margo but they wouldn't listen. Years later we finally get our due.
