What if Mayweather stayed as a jr. welterweight and cleaned out the division?

Just so there is no favouritism, this is related to a thread with Pacquiao http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?p=8203031#post8203031

Say Mayweather ends his career now, but instead of moving up in weight after he beats Arturo Gatti, he stayed at jr welterweight and cleaned out the division. Looking back which is the greater achievement? Actual path (Multiple weights) or Alternative path (clean out a division).

Again with Pacquiao, the fights of the alternative path take place at the exact same time as they did in the actual path (so primes irrelevant).

    1. Actual path:
    Sharmba Mitchell
    Zab Judah
    Carlos Baldomir
    De La Hoya
    Ricky Hatton (welter)
    *retirement*
    JMM
    Shane Mosley

    2. Alternative path:
    Kostya Tsyzu
    Ricky Hatton
    Miguel Cotto
    Kendall Holt
    Lamont Peterson
    *retirement*
    Devon Alexander
    Tim Bradley

Again, the same with Pacquiao: the actual path has more marketable stars, but is there more credibility cleaning out jr welter rather than moving up and grabbing a further two belts at higher weight classes?

alternative path would be better, he would be a modern day pea, now he is just a guy who has marbles for balls.

if he took the alt path they'd cry and say he needs to move up to 147 and test himself!

De La Hoya: In the timeframe this would have fit into roughly 2006. Oscar would be two weight classes above Mayweather. His last fight was at middleweight. I don't think asking Oscar to come down to jr welter would be a viable option at the time.

Paul Williams: He has never fought as a jr welterweight.

Manny Pacquiao: this would be equivelant to 2010, so Manny is a welterweight/jr middle.

I was making a mixture of both lists so he's still jumping weight because realistically Tszyu, Cotto and Hatton are the only 140 knees that mean anything.

he won't be ducking them if he didn't go there in the first place and instead, stayed at 140 to totally clean up the division...

Hatton and Cotto wouldnt fight him at 140, Ray HAtton said they turned the fight down on 7occasions, Arum was protecting Cotto, Tyszu was retired.

I think making a hypothetical list of all the opponents he could fight is a whole different game. I'm just curious as to how people would rank a fighter if they hung around and dominated one division by beating number 1 contender after number 1 contender instead of moving up and facing good yet perhaps questionable (?) opponents.

Timeline doesn't really work on this one.

Tszyu was retired having quit on his stool against Hatton.

Hatton was fairly unknown in the US at the time you have them fighting.

Cotto could no longer make 140 at the time you have them fighting.

Holt had yet to win a title at the time you have them fighting.

Peterson had only fought one 12 rounder and no-one of note.

Alexander was 18-0 - this was the point he was taking on Witter for a vacant title. Not really realistic to be fighting Mayweather.

Bradley is the only one that looks actually feasible. Nice fantasy line-up, no way it could possibly have happened like that.
