this is actually a very good post and a great topic to discuss, not too many around the general forum
Tyson probably would've made a couple of lightweight title defenses, and still lost to Evander in a decision, which would be percieved as an upset.
No because Tyson wasn't training hard after unifying the titles and he was using drugs at that time, he started getting gassed early in fights. If you watch the Douglas fight he was gassed in the second round and was bear hugging Douglas like it was the 12th round because he was so out of shape.
i shift my opinion constantly on this subject what i can say is tyson really took buster lightly he would have taken evander as a serious test he would have trained for that fight and i think he could have won that fight losing to buster did a number on him but had he beat buster and trained hard for evander and won would he take another softer challenge lightly and lose to a different lesser tier guy in my opinion the division was only getting tougher a new batch of contenders liker Mercer Morrisson Lewis Bowe Moorer Foreman Shulz young botha young Golata young Briggs were emerging hard to think he was gonna beat all those guys
Tyson was destined for a downward spiral, such a shame but I doubt a victory over Douglas would change much.
He would have been schooled by Holy, Bowe and some bum. Hell, Douglas sucked and his mind was not even on the fight.
He would eventually lose to Evander Holyfield, who has always been a very dedicated fighter and tough mentally. Very hard opponent even for a prime Tyson.
Holyfield wouldve been very difficult for Tyson however if Mikey did somehow come out with a W in that douglas match he wouldve been inspired to ACTUALLY TRAIN against a fighter like Holyfield.. especially after a close call When Tyson lost against douglas he was a mess after that..thats why him facing Holy after a [lucky win or not] against buster wouldve been a Tyson coming off a win..and he wouldve been looking very forward against someone of Evanders calibur i would imagine.. things COULDVE been very different for tyson had he won against buster
Sure, I mean Id give The young version of Tyson about a 30% chance to beat Holyfield, which is good in boxing. That would have been his career defining win for sure. I just dont think he would have won. Holy wasnt going to be bullied and he had the tools and energy to tame Tyson and break him imo.
Wouldn't have made a difference. Tyson's problems were outside of boxing and was already affecting his training for fights as seen in the Buster Douglas fight. Buster Douglas was not a bum that night. His mother had passed away not too long before the fight had taken place and Buster had dedicated the fight to his mom before it took place and trained harder than ever. You could clearly see it in the way he fought, looked really inspired. He swarmed Tyson every time he got near and Mike took bombs all night until his chin finally gave in.
It would of made more money for Tyson and Holyfield in a superfight months after, Vander looked gutted when Tyson got put down by Buster.
Tyson was always going to be a short lived but great champion. If it wasnt buster it was going to be another . It is what it is, Tyson had everything and threw it all away. He could have been one of the greats.
He would have been exploited for his lack of serious training sooner or later. Could be Evander or anyone else, hard to guess.
:rofl:rofl:rofl DUMB THREAD!!! TYson would NEVER beat Buster. :deal He were 100% PEAK in 1990 VS Buster And he got DESTROYED!! JUst look at His head-movement And combos They were as good as Ever - BUT Buster had his number like Holyfeild did to VS Prime Tyson 1996.. teh 1990 Tokeyo Buster KO's teh "1988" tyson 10/10 times in 10 Roundz!!:deal
