Years later, Ferdie made a lot of claims about what he said he saw at the time.

Go back and find what he was saying when he left and it was all about his kidneys. Not a word about brain damage of any type.

If Ferdie was seeing signs of brain damage, he should have had his medical license pulled for not ever mentioning it at the time.

Remember, this is a guy who was doing commentary ringside for Gerald McClellan vs. Nigel Benn and basically calling McClellan a coward for not fighting and making fun of his blinking when repeated blinking is a neurological sign of brain damage. He saw it, noted it on commentary and yet somehow the ‘Fight Doctor’ didn’t recognize it for the distress it was and instead questioned McClellan’s heart while watching him go through brain shutdown.

Ferdie was a complete fraud.

 

He said if he had beat Lyle he would have become the greatest. He might retire after that fight (1975) but he needed money. However even if he lost some fights after Lyle he became the greatest HW ever the same imo.
