Would that have impacted the results of some past heavyweight fights which were fought in 8oz or even 4oz gloves, going far enough back. Ali KOd Foreman in 8oz gloves would the 10oz have muffled his power?
Guys before the Dempsey era would have fought a lot differently. It would be less reliant on wrestling and infighting, meaning the amount of rounds might have also changed due to the higher levels of activity. Jack Johnson as we know him simply would not have existed. Things would still be a bit different after the Dempsey era where the game changed, but it would still be very similar to what actually ended up happening. Probably just less infighting, especially if the gloves have attached thumbs to them.
This sort of question is interesting though and I’d like to see how slappers in the 5oz 1920s boxing glove era do. How would there style change if in 10z they’d be unable to stiffen a guy a little… with 5oz’s even if I don’t have much power It’ll still “hurt” not in a concussive way but in a bony knuckle sort of way.
I don’t know if it’ll make a concussive difference but it’d hurt a lot more to be hit by 5oz gloves it’d do more damage to the actual face to. I wonder how someone like Greb would change in 10z gloves.
I think that the people who the bigger gloves might hurt the most, are the master finishers of the past, who could thread a deadly punch through an opponents guard.
