If Paulie, as a fighter, was a lot more lethal with his punches, how would you think he'd be fairing as a fighter now? I don't think his fight with Cotto would of came off any different, as Cotto was just a different animal, though he may have outpointed him a little more, but I don't think it'd be enough to even get a split decision. I can't make a call on the Hatton fight because I'm on his side when he speaks about McGirt trying to change his style, because he really didn't look right. A poor excuse, but what can I say? I think a top notch Paulie with strong hands could give Hatton some real trouble, especially if he's just plodding forward as usual. And with Juan Diaz, he would of almost certainly beaten him on points. The major issue with that fight going against him was that he was getting caught a lot and not throwing hard shots, but outpointing him with a jab. While I thought he won, I'd be a fool not to admit that there was rounds Diaz took simply for coming forward and landing the more telltale shots. So how do you think Paulie would be doing as a Jr. WW if he had more power? Pretty much the same but with more KO's on his career? Or would he be top dog?
he could have made juan diaz more bloody and i could have given him all the close rounds in that fight
What's the point of this? If Malignaggi had more power in his punches then his entire fighting style would have evolved differently and he'd basically be a completely different fighter.
How much less feather-fisted do you suppose he's be? Paulie's biggest problem is that without power in his hands he can't keep guys off him. If there was power there he would have come much closer to a decision with Cotto and he would have likely beaten Hatton. Beaten Hatton? Yes. In the fight he breaks his right hand early and then doesn't throw it at all, AT ALL, in the rest of the fight leaving Hatton to attack him AT WILL. If he had power he would have ended Diaz as Diaz would not have been able to come back easily after Paulie threw his combinations. It's the fact that without any real power and chronically broken hands Maliggnaggi has managed to get this far in the sport is AMAZING.
This is the case more than likely. I'd say he would throw less punches if he had more power. I think Malignaggi with power would be a top fighter, cos the guy is a very good boxer.
If paulie had lethal punching power, a granite chin, more speed, talent and skill he would be an ATG hate your thread
ATG i def... think so , he would have knocked cotto out in the middle rounds , destroyed hatton in the 1st or 2nd. and fought floyd or pac and possibly get a win.....
Couple of things here not sure if people are really looking at it this way, Before the fight even happend, Paulie had already went on the record and planted the seed in saying he felt he wasnt getting a fair fight. As fans we do buy into some of the emotion that a fighter goes through and I think that to played a role. Paulies lack of Power also played a big role, when he cant snap Diaz's head back the way Diaz was able to snap his back in the eyes of the judges Diaz is landing the thunder while Paulie though it might be thunder he is throwing in terms of his power to a Judge it looks like a pitty pat shot. Then you have his cross over defensive style, look Paulie rolling with shots having his hands down and taking the shots yet rolling with them also gives the judges an idea that Diaz is scoring even at times when perhaps he isnt. Bottom line it wasnt just the judges its also paulies style and attributes that kinda screwed him.
