So, many of you are saying Cotto is #1, the best, he will beat PBF. Now lets say PBF would have fought and embarrased Gomez, would the same people giving Cotto so much props over his" spectacular performance" give PBF the same props?
Anyone can look good against a shot fighter. Hell, Gatti looked like a master boxer when he fought Leija!
Another ****ing threadatsch bro give it up...we know you hate Cotto, don't need to keep making threads as if you're concerned about Floyd's images...this is more about your hate for Cotto...The Puerto Rican Phenom!
Well, I agree that Cotto didn't gain anything from this fight. But I don't agree he's improved. How can that be measured??? Because he looked better against Gomez than Old man Mosley????:huh Hell, Trinidad looked like he was a a p4p boxer against an overweight Mayorga, but we all saw what happened a couple months later against Wright.
The way Gomez looked against Cotto I would say a similar result. It would depend if Floyd would open as aggressively as Cotto from the opening bell. Cotto's speed just cut Gomez to shreds. PBF has the speed but I would think if he needed warm up time for Hatton than maybe Gomez too. Gomez just could not fire off anything solid. I guess that's hard to do with a snapping jab in your face.
I think it is high time that stars of 'The Contender' were made to prove themselves against genuine, high class opposition before being given title shots. Cotto was taking the **** out of Gomez, could have KO'd him in the first round. Whoever sanctioned this bout should be thrown out of boxing. It was not a good advert for the sport at all.
Of course PBF wins against Gomez . . . but I don't think PBF can end the fight on the note that Cotto ended it. Gomez will look much better against Floyd because he won't receive same amount of punishment from Floyd in three rounds like he did against Cotto. PBF by T/KO in round 8 or 9th.
It would have been like the GAtti fight, No way Mayweather takes fights like that now, He is a PPV fighter now and he only does mega fights that do huge numbers like DLH and Cotto or pavlik. He would no even both now if he was no getting at least 10 millions
Of course people would give Floyd less credit, and deservedly so! If you want to claim yourself to be P4P #1 then you need to fight the best - Cotto is not P4P #1 so we do not expect the competition to be as high - I admit I would have preferred him to fight someone better but if Floyd had wasted one of his last few fights on Gomez then he would deserve all the **** he would get. Cotto on the other hand is younger, has more years remaining at the top, is not P4P #1 so taking one crap fight that might boost his popularity (the whole 'contender' angle) should be much less of an issue.
NO DOUBT!! An article in this month's Ring Mag goes into some quite funny detail about this aswell. It says the show should be called "The Opponent" from now on. LOL. Seriously though, they keep thinkin it's a good idea, but how may Title fights do we really want to see called off in the first few rounds because it's obvious the "opponent" is going to get seriously hurt if it continues, ala. Manfredo, Gomez, etc..
