SRL would TKO or KO Cuevas within 8 rds, SRL would start slow and then proceed to give Cuevas a Boxing lesson. However if Cuevas connects with one of his muderous punches he could TKO or KO SRL

Hearns was already working through the contenders -- and would have continued to do so.

Before long, he'd have been in line for a mandatory and Leonard-Hearns would have happened before the end of the year.

And the course of history would have thus resumed.

I can see the fight taking longer to happen. The CUevas Ko made a Hearns fight a must. Without that KO, teh demand wouldnt be as great

I can see Leonard taking on Duran in early 1981; rematch (if he loses) in mid 1981. Ray then fights some chumps for a bit

The fight happens earlliest in late 1982 by then Hearns would be to drained for welterwright. You can bet ray would try like hell to make him fight at welter

A SRL V Cuevas fight in 1980 really could of affected the course of Hearns career and future recognitio.

Cuevas could drop Ray but in all likelihood he would get stopped in the mid-rounds by a furious two-fisted assault

No one said who the El Gallo was.....just it was Leonard who was complimenting Cuevas on how great Pipino was and how much he wanted to fight him....then Ray must have got in his car and said: "Now let's get the hell out of Dodge."

And he was smart to do so. Ray was sorely lacking in two main Hearns assets, those being range and murderous punching power. Without those I don't see how Leonard would be able to keep Pipino off.

Hearns had big build up before he beat Cuevas, he was destined for big time, with or without Cuevas bout.
