What if Ray Robinson won the title during the start of the 80s?

Replace Hagler with Robinson instead. How far does he get?

Personally, I think he would hit a wall with Roldan who would never let Robinson get set. Roldan was very hard to hit and at the time he faced Hagler, found it nearly impossible to miss his opponent. Very strong and heavy handed

Considering Sugar Ray would be early 60s i think Roldan blasts him out in 1.

I think he could have beaten most or all of haglers contenders. Thomas hearns would be a tough one. On this timeline Robinson would reach 34 years of age by 1985 and Tommy was tall, skilled, awkward and hard hitting. He might have lost that one

and if Tommy didnt get to him, Mugabi would have. I think Roldan had a very good chance as well. Nobody does as well as Hagler during the 80s

As great as Sugar Ray was, I believe he was at his best as a welterweight. As a middleweight, he was still great but showed more vulnerability. He lost the title and regained it from Randy Turpin, then retired for a couple years following the Maxim fight. He was in his mid 30s when he came back and lost fights to Tiger Jones, Gene Fullmer, and Carmen Basilio. Hagler's reign as middleweight champion was more consistent than Ray's and Hagler was more dominant in his reign. So, putting the 29-year old Robinson in Hagler's place in 1980, I believe Ray would do well against Hagler's challengers but would certainly struggle more with some. Those mentioned above - Roldan, Hearns, and Mugabi would be tough fights for Robinson and I believe that any one of them could score an upset. I don't believe Ray holds the title as long as Hagler did. That said, I don't believe any of them stop Robinson. In real time, the only official stoppage Robinson suffered in his long and distinguished career was against Maxim but it is generally acknowledged that was due more to the heat. Even in his forties he was fighting future champions and contenders and taking them the distance. It is possible that he might lose and win the title a couple of times in the 80s as he did in the 50s.

Why would he be replacing Hagler, when he was a Welterweight?

Didn't the ring mag just ranked him as the greatest middleweight ever?
