What if...Rocky Marciano had lost to Jersey Joe Walcott in 1952?

    Did you have Walcott ahead? I thought Marciano's workrate had him ahead but haven't watched it recently.

    In answer to the Q, Valdes who had just beat Charles was the natural contender for the crown.

    Although if he wins a contentious decision, not giving a rematch would look very bad. Had anyone ducked a rematch after a controversial decision at that stage in HW boxing history? I can't think of one. Louis gave rematches, Tunney gave Dempsey a rematch. Maybe Sharkey-Schmelling

    I do think that it is right that Marciano is ranked somewhat higher than Walcott and Charles.

    I am open to the idea that younger versions of those fighters might have beaten him, but I don't think that he would have lost to men like Elmer Ray, Joey Maxim, or Rex Layne, as they did.
