What if Rooney had stayed as Tyson`s trainer after the Spinks fight?

He would certainly have had an enswell with him.

As you say, it would not have changed the outcome of the fight.

It is just possible that Rooney says something like "he is open to a right hand when he does X."

One solution to dealing with Douglas, would have been simply to avoid him.

His case for a title shot wasn't exactly overwhelming.

Nobody said Tyson was perfect with Rooney. A far better fighter, sure. There are other factors why Tyson's skills declined than just Rooney being fired. I shouldn't have to go over them. Rooney not being in his corner was certainly viable.

You're twisting this thread around by using certain words like absolutely perfect and magical trainer. Did Lennox Lewis not improve with Steward in his corner? Did Buddy McGirt turn Arturo Gatti's career around when Gatti was all but left for dead? Tons of examples where fighters improved or declined under different trainers.

Rooney not being in Tyson's corner didn't benefit Tyson, but that doesn't mean Tyson wasn't a good fighter.

How do you know this? That's what we call a blanket statement. I think the opposite is true. A good cornerman helps their fighter, do they not? It's a part of the whole, that's why they called it "Team Tyson".

Now if Tyson didn't train properly under Rooney, taking months off in between fights and even ballooning up in between, then you probably have a case.

Did Ray Arcel make any difference being in Duran"s corner in New Orleans for the Leonard rematch? A good corner can only advise them what to do,, they can't stop a fighter from self destructing can they?
P.S. Tyson was in very good condition against Buster

What? Are you in a drunken stupor? What do you think cornermen are there for? Go sober up.

I see you've reached the end of your ability to defend your position. Good night

Tyson used to train on moves when he went home to his correctional facility, he was obsessed with learning, he studied old fights and admired Cus, other fighter just don`t have that spark and commitment, they just won`t listen, boxing isn`t easy.

It matters how much Mike would listen to him. The thing is if he stays with Kevin Rooney, then probably Don King would not have been in the picture as much because Rooney leaving was inevitable. I think King was trying to push all the old guys away from Mike so he could take control. and then Mike lost his original team. King didn't realize how important Mike's team was to his whole mental makeup.
