Actually manages to beat Hopkins in April and then retires ( i know it doesnt seem likely because of his recent display but stylewise he has a chance) If this would happen how would it affect his legacy?
I would want Roy Jones to retire with a win over Hopkins, no one should stain the victory since Hopkins is still on most p4p lists
Not by that much because he already beat Hopkins. Roy would be more awarded for beating someone young and hungry such as Dawson like when Hops beat Pavlik. No one expected a shutout like that.
does not effect RJJ's legacy any more than his 1st round KO by Green. RJJ has stopped adding to his legacy some time ago. B-hop is adding so he if loses to RJJ that could be the end of him as a serious fighter, a top 10 p4p guy.
BHop fans would claim another victory that just ain't so. Actually, I can see this happening (as I saw it) like it did in Taylor 1 and Calzaghe: he doesn't quite prepare properly, believing (probably accurately) that this should be fairly easy. I felt he showed he was the more skilled fighter in both those bouts, but simply didn't win enough rounds.
To answer the question: a RJJ win would eradicate some of the impact of those horrible losses. He'd be back in with an argument of being the best fighter post-Leonard (which, at his best, I have to concede I think RJJ is).
I think the Green fight hurt him much more than any win against a 45 year old Hopkins. Fact is Bernard is older and Green stopped him. If Jones beats Hopkins (which is possible since Hopkins is older also) it just means that both are too old to be fighting. Jones should have fought Green again to prove he could beat him.
I don't like the fight either, however im still going to watch it. Jones should retire after this i dont want him to get really hurt by going on like this.
