If these two were to fight each other at the present time, what happens? Do you see Byrd surviving and getting the decision? Does Byrd hit the deck? Does Peter do enough for a decision? Thoughts
Byrd by relatively close but clear UD. Peter does not have the hand speed to bother Byrd .. he will block and evade all night.. and his chin is good enough to handle single shots. A few years back i doubt Peter would have won a round. This is a styles make fights thing though and Byrd is just all wrong for Peter who i think right now is the better fighter with more chances of success.
Byrd wins via UD. VERY bad match-up for Peter. It will look similar to a cross between Byrd-Tua and Byrd-McCline.
depends on how much Byrd's ring life got beaten out of him by Wlad. A healthy Byrd would probably survive a knockdown to outpoint Peter, making him look amateurish for a few rounds. It would be like Byrd-McCline, but not as close.
Peter would knock Bryd out now, Bryd is not the fighter he used to be back in 02. Bryds speed and reaction time is **** anymore, Bryd would come in scared thanks to Wlad, and would probably get blasted out early in the fight.
What are you basing any of this on? I think Byrd beats Peter rather handily. It's a very bad style match-up for Byrd. Don't forget, Byrd has been competitive in every bout he's ever been in barring his two bouts with Wlad--the one fighter who represented a stylistic nightmare for HIM. Byrd UD Peter.
While he has been competitive lately, he also has been having trouble with lesser fighters IMO. His draw with Golota, his close match with Oqeundo, and his win against Mccline were all tough fights for him. He doesnt posses the speed or talent he did against guys like Tua in 02 or Holyfield, his last couple years has been a struggle for Bryd to win matches. I also believe he will be a little gun shy from his devastating loss to Wlad, Bryd will never be the same against big punchers.
Byrd has shown that he can clown guys who rely heavily on left hooks and uppercuts or other wide shots. See his fights with Tua and Holyfield. The problem he'd encounter with Sam Peter right away would be Sam's jab. Byrd historically has had trouble with bigger guys who kept him away with the jab. Look at how McCline had him under control as long as he stuck behind the jab and the straight right. That is without a doubt Sam Peter's bread n' butter. I'll say Sam wins this one today. And probably by scores of 8-4.
Byrd would have outboxed Peter to a clear UD, but now, I don't like his chances against any strong, top level pressure fighter.
