There is no fight between Joe and Max in 1936 . Joe wins the title from Braddock as he did. Louis defends against Schmeling in 1938 and is KO d in the twelve round. Obviously Louis loses his title here.
So my question was, with Max beating Joe (heavyweight champ),is he perhaps rated higher now. Also as Man Machine points out, become the champ a second time.
With that in mind, the assumption would have to be that Schmeling doesn't go into retirement the following year and pushes on for as long as he can, beyond '39.
