He has a record of 10-22-2, but hes been match almost exclusively with top prospects, getting wins over some and some dodgy losses like last night or the Lucas Browne fight. He clearly had some ability. You feel if he had been matched right, he could have had a nice career.
Well, in boxing there are 3 kinds of fighters: A corner kid, away corner kid or in best case just fight to fill time in undercards. If you are away corner kid, you are picked to loss this fight and pro boxing is more about to build brand - boxer to earn with him. Matchmaking matters a lot and notice periods etc like things. If you or your investors can't bring $ you are away corner kid, in best, rare cases just kid for some pair to fill undercards. Business.
In pro boxing brand build up not rarerly is like this: match tickets seller with bums, later journeymans and then with sneaky stuff like old, over the hill, shot fighters to climb in rankings more seriously. If someone managed to get in top, then there nice earning might be started with boxers. Yeah, if sales are good, might do cherry pick, fight old uncles with formerly big names, fighters pushed to climb up in weight classes, short notice opponents etc. If there is belt, might not attempt unify and duck too dangerous opponents, cherry pick and even vacate belts not to get in the ring someone too dangerous. Then boxing fans still will worship their brand and pay to watch this boxer. We might have even boxers for years sitting on 1 belt and cherry picking and pay for this stuff and be their fans. Fans are not that smart at all and they might milk them with a glance and do easy fights for their boxer and still earn money. This isn't MMA or MT/KB.
He could have a better record or possibly made more money, but he would never be anything more than a journeyman.
