Liston had a great jab, it was really powerful and he posted with it sometimes which worked well as a defensive measure because of his amazing reach, his head movement was much better than Foreman`s. His left hook was lethal. Could he have troubled Foreman though prime for prime? Foreman said when he sparred with Liston as a veery young fighter, that Sonny was the only fighter that could push him backwards.
Well, knowing Sonny as I did in the mid 60s, I pretty much got a handle on his personality. If Sonny saw Foreman in his prime he would say, "Golly! Gee whiz! Young George sure is a fun fighter to watch. I hope he follows the straight and narrow and stays away from cigarettes and beer. And mostly women of low moral turpitude. Maybe I can get young George to come to choir practice at church with me. Then some carroling and back to the barn dance to bob for apples. I love puppies and daisies and windy rainy days where I can read a book if I wasn't illiterate. I sure hope Georgey has better luck than me!"
Quite funny, but Liston was said to be a humble man away from the world of boxing and was called the proverbial hen-pecked husband, in an edition of THE RING magazine once.
The Sonny I was neighbors with was a ray of sunshine. You asked what he would think and I told you. Now you're saying I'm lying? GOOD DAY SIR! I will not correspond with such a scoflaw.
This speculation is unnecessary. Get the your questions straight from Sonny himself. https://sonnyliston.net/sonny-liston-today-introduction/
I do have a question if anyone have an answer. Was he (Sonny Liston) a leg breaker for the Mob as some rumors have it? I have a hard time believing that. If someone have a answer that's verifiable would love to hear it.
Yes . Everything that ive read about Liston has reported this as a fact . It's like Emile Griffith being gay...No one denies it
