What if Sonny Liston was a short Italian

Liston was a quitter, Marciano was not.........skin color heritage size, etc etc would make no fuggin difference because Liston had the Quitter DNA since birth and the Pizza guy did not, simple as that.

Well, I rate Liston higher than Marciano, but I would imagine the US would have embraced him far more had he been anything other than black.

Very true and this is why Liston is typically not rated very high all time. Past ATG would need to be carried out on a stretcher before giving up their title. Liston gets cut, is getting beaten up...claims a bum shoulder and quits. Marciano would never quit no matter the circumstance....a true mark of an ATG and a quality every historian looks for in a great champion.

You should be banned for such garbage posts. It's not a question of color or race. It's a question on ATG abilities. Liston did not show the abilities of an ATG...Marciano did. End of story. MOST all knowledgable posters on this board I can assure you rate the past hwt champions based of skill, performance, will to win, heart. The qualities required for all time greatness. Only a very few on here are poisoned by racism. You are one of them I am sorry to say. I am white and In my top 5 all are black. They are there because they deserve to be there not because I admire their skin color. Marciano was and is an ATG hwt champion. Nothing will ever occur that will change this as a fact. He, like Ali, Johnson, Louis, Holmes demonstrated the qualities required for all time greatness.
