Had fought in their primes? When they fought Armstrong was past it and SRR said he didn't want to fight him because he idolized him but Armstrong needed money so Ray gave him a payday.
In his prime Armstrong was a hell of a fighter. He beat Lou Ambers for the LW belt, beat Barney Ross for the WW title. Those two wins alone are an impressive resume for any fighter any era. He had more than 100 career kos. I think a prime Armstrong vs SRR would be a hell of a fight but im not sure if Armstrong, even in his prime would beat Sugar Ray who was damn near unbeatable at welter.

Yes, this would've been a great one. Armstrong's presence would be felt through his unrelenting pressure. However, he's ultimately not quite big enough to overcome the great Robinson. But size isn't so much the issue. Hank's style is made for Ray. Armstrong will come and come, while SRR will hit and hit. Robinson's firepower will ultimately be the factor in this one. Armstrong falls late.

The SRL of 1981 and 1982 would out-box Armstrong of the late 1930s and early 1940s at 147 to 154 pounds by a pretty good margin... An interesting fight... Ray wins over 10, 12 or 15 rds.... WORD!

I ****ed up and mis-read the name....... Still, same outcome...... Ray Robby wins.......
