What if the Ali who beat Cleveland Williams fought the Frazier of FOTC?

Well we’ll have to beg to differ.
The quality of the win isn’t remotely overrated, it’s just an appreciation of the skills on show.
Also although way past his prime Williams wasn’t exactly the invalid people say he was.
He’d won 4 successive fights leading into the fight and another
4 or 5 in a row after, although none against top opposition.

He'd actually beat one of Frazier's challengers seven years later.

    He had another leg?
LOL so he was supposed to limp Ali down?

Yes Ali was better before the exile but Williams was shot. Still some other fights around that time that can be used as examples of Ali's brilliance before the lay off

I not only think Ali of 1966 beats Frazier, I think Ali could have done it in 1971 if he had just trained as he should.

Someone posted an excerpt of a biography where Belinda spoke about how she caught Ali with a hooker right before the fight and how she was more disgusted by how lightly he took his preparations rather than the infedelity. Dundee also stated in his biography that Ali trained ok but not with the intensity he should have for a fight like that (also posted on this site), citing that he got distracted by so many dropping by the camp. Could be a nicer way of saying what Belinda did.

Had he had also another year of training and fights under his belt, I feel even more confident of his chances.

Now cue Frazier fans saying I make excuses for Ali, while at the same time insisting that Frazier was past his prime at 29 and 30 fights.

Yep, But six, not seven, years after facing Ali.

Frazier would beat prime Ali but lost twice to Ali who was well past his prime...

    Interesting.

If the three extra lbs and five extra years (most of them spent in inactivity) made Ali stronger, wouldn't the same be true for Frazier in the second and third fights?

In addition to the points I made earlier, there’s also the fact that Ali of 66/67 was far more mobile and would be able to evade Frazier’s punches more effectively. He also had the stamina to dance for 15 rounds.

On top of this, Ali’s punching was far more accurate. So Frazier would land fewer punches and get hit more often…

By round 10 Frazier’s face would probably be so swollen that he’d be unable to see. It would be round 14 in Manila all over again except there would be longer to go.

I can’t see any way Frazier could beat a prime Ali.

    No, it isn't.

Frazier never fought a prime Ali.

Ali when he was past his prime beat Frazier twice and in Manila hadn't trained properly yet he still won.

    It absolutely is.

Joe Frazier was a great boxer and one of the greatest exponents of his style on film, ever.

On paper, Frazier has a style advantage.

Picking Ali is fine. Coming down heavily on Ali's side is absolutely fine. Being able to see no way for Joe Frazier to win this fight is the same as not being able to see.

Wow so now Frazier was already past his prime when he gave his most amazing performance in FOTC? Lol, the lengths people will go to shift the goal posts. Isnt that a bit hypocritical? Tyson fans do the same thing: he was conveniently "way past his prime" or "in decline" just before the buster Douglas ass whooping.

Wouldn't be surprised if people claim Frazier was past his prime in the mathis fight too! So apparently frazier can stay in the top 10 rankings and be competitive in one of the greatest eras of all time while completely shot!
