The stoppage would have been unjustified, Fury was protecting the cut, winning rounds and it wasn't getting any worse.

There would have been a rematch, which Fury would have handily won, that's what would have happened.

You all forgetting that Fury won by a wide margin?

What would have happened if Dillian didn’t get knocked out by Povetkin?
    Or Douglas didn’t beat Tyson?
    Or if Benn lost McClennan?
Or Ruiz didn’t catch AJ with “a punch from the gods” and AJ started a US takeover like matchroom wanted?
Or if there was no voter fraud and Trump won a second term?

All similarly rounded hypothetical questions as this…

    Right.

This fight having been allowed to run its course is often baselessly touted as a corrupt happening. It should be noted that American officials and ringside physicians have long shown a greater tolerance for allowing fighters to continue through (even multiple) bad cuts than their UK counterparts.

If Wallin had sustained the same cut and been pulled by the physician/referee, it would've been every bit as soft a stoppage as if Fury were pulled. But I don't expect he would've been pulled, if he was hanging tough in there, defending himself and showing the same eagerness to fight on that Fury demonstrated.

Wallin wasn't cut, so the scenario is a non-factor. Fury was cut and was allowed to continue, as he should have been.

It always strikes me as especially odd when fans of boxing advocate for the dilution of the sport just to provide fodder for their enmity toward some fighter or other.

Well, Fury probably would've demanded a rematch. If there was a rematch clause between Fury and Wallin, Wilder likely would've faced Whyte before Covid happened. If not, Wilder may have fought Wallin.

If Fury has a rematch clause with Wallin, Fury likely wins. Wilder fights Whyte. Stops him

We're out because of the pandemic.

We come back from the pandemic. Joshua faces his mandatories, Pulev and Usyk. Usyk wins. Fury and Wilder have their rematch. Fury wins.

And we're right where we are now ... except we're probably looking at Fury-Wilder III and Usyk-Joshua II next.

So, basically, all the same matchups (except Wilder-Whyte instead of Fury-Whyte) ... they're just out of the sequence they're in now.

So, probably not much in the grand scheme of things ... unless there was no rematch clause between Fury and Wallin.

But, if Wallin won, there was no rematch, and that was that ... quite a lot would've changed.

Guess it all depends on if Wallin signed a rematch clause.
