I think Hagler respected Duran too much and didn't go into the fight with killer instinct, I'm not saying he carried him but IMO he didn't go all out.

He was pretty much the same man in both fights. Less than six months apart.Well up for his opponents

Great summary, and I believe the answer to this question is yes, it would have been enough to secure a win considering that he was up on the cards after the 12th round.

Davey did beat Kalule who had more than twenty fights more than Davey

as with Roldan vs Hagler, he couldnt cope with the handicap

this version of Duran was roughly the version faced by Hagler

Hagler liked his opponents to come at him, he was shocked & confused when Duran opted to fight on the counter, just showed what a smart fighter Duran actually was behind the image of the satanic rampaging animal. He put Marvin into his shell, condition settled this fight, just look at the DeJesus 11 & 111 fights to see how Duran could alter his approach to an opponent, Duran was slick & savvy & Marvin just did not know what to do, Duran whacked him all night long with his counters. I spoke to a feller years ago who was with Duran's entourage, he told me that Duran actually over-trained for the Hagler fight as he was so desperate to get the 4th title & get SRL back into the ring.

the hagler who beat hearns would probably stop any version of duran late in the fight, just too much size, ability and fury. Though pound for pound they were very comparable.
It never suited hagler being too careful he was best when he let it flow.
I think duran did a psyche job on hagler like he did with leonard and palomino

I think the version that beat Moore could beat THAT version of Hagler, but if they were both at their very best Hagler would win.

Hagler fought a very cautious fight and I don't think that was a particular great performance by him. I don't envision Duran beating the Hagler who KO'd Hearns. But P4P it's Duran all the way.

Good posting. My only question is could Duran have been in better condition, he fought hard for 15 and kept it close against a bigger all time great. Arcels quote that Duran was tired going into the 7th may speak of what it took for Robeto to stay close and not get stopped by Marvin. Back in the 15 round days I saw fighters in top shape with nothing left going into the 12th and 13th, Duran had to be in pretty decent shape for that bout.

I do think that Hagler was wary about being thumbed. He even mentioned that to his corner in one of the earlier rounds.
It wasn't a great display by Hagler, but he did get the job done. Duran was very smart and crafty as usual.
