What if the lightheavyweight division had been established earlier?

The light heavyweight title was established in 1903 while the heavyweight and middleweight titles had been recognised since around 1880.

At its conception the heavyweight division covered any fighter who weighed more than 154lbs.

This meant that if you weighed 155lbs and wanted to fight at world level, you were likley to get matched against people over 200 lbs on a fairly regular basis.

What I wan't you to consider is who the lost generation of light heavyweight champions of the era from 1880-1903 might have been.

What if they had been able to content for a title that covered the weight range from 154-175lbs?

    Who are the new champions?

    Charlie Mitchell?

    Dominic McCafrey?

    Joe Choynski?

    Kid McCoy?
