this would have been a really nice match up. i dont even know alot about cervantes, but if he could beat nocolino locche, he must have been great.
I think Cervantes was (and would have been had they fought) past his prime. I think Arguello would have been too sharp for him and stopped him around 9. Pryor (and maybe a bottle) was the only 140 lber of that era who would've beaten Arguello that night.
He beat a very faded Locche by cuts stoppage after being shut out in their first fight, which Locche was still past his prime in(though to be fair, Cervantes was also a bit green). I'd think at 140 it would've been a fairly even affair with Arguello actually, as long as we're talking prime for prime. If we're talking an actual matchup, Arguello would've stopped the shot version of Cervantes he'd have been facing. Prime for prime I'll take Arguello by late stoppage though, over 15.
Arguello would probably beat Cervantes in a unanimous decision, but Antonio's saavy would help him from being kayoed by Alexis.
Oh, oh, I think Pryor's first Arguello would actually beat many good light welterweight champs, in their respective primes, and could beat some great ones. Yes, anyway.
