What if they make a 13th round in case of a tie?

This would be kinda cool atleast for me as I ****ing hate draws. Both fighters would come out with everything they have left. The only bad part might be the time it would take to do the announcements then go back and do one more round.

You would need open scoring by the 12th for that. Open scoring sucks.

the USBA used to do that for fights....
its probably the most sensible idea ever made...thats why it will never be used in boxing....

its kind of neat... but yeah - open scoring would be required for an individual-centric sport.
OT / Sudden Death is applicable to team-centric sports.

The tough thing with boxing is that the judges end up taking time putting their score cards together, possibly retweaking it after realizing the results, possibly concurring or leveling with the other judges. After all this shenanigans, too much time had passed by and the boxer's muscles have had cooled down....

i would suggest a wholly new scoring system thats not so black/white per round. One blatant problem with the scoring system is that it could have been a very competitive fight but one fighter had slightly consistently done better in each round. In the end, it becomes a shut-out, though the loser had put in a very competitive performance. But on paper, it looks VERY BAD, and could become misleading to fans and historians...

Because of this anomaly, some judges may retro-actively retweak their scoring and award the loser some "comparative" rounds to make the end results look more competitively on their end, though doing that skews the very scoring system and the accuracy of the values...

It works in the Ultimate Fighter series. Not sure how they pull it off there.

Dont they just score 3 rounds....lol? And their scoring system is much more simplified.... and the judging is performed in a much more casual atmosphere.... just saying - put it in perspective

How about make title fights 13 rounds and keep the scoring closed? Forget any OT bull****. Head to your corner after the 12th and prepare for the final round.

rounds do not necessarily mean much if the scorecards are skewd

    all about points

    How about this:

Just make it mandatory that each judge pick a winner.

If they tally their scores and find they have a tie (and they are actually not on the take, which might actually happen once in a while) then they would be required to pick a winner regardless, based on overall perception.

    ---------

Such scores might come with an asterisk, or whatever. - And if a fighter wins with all three judges giving such an "asterisk" win, then a rematch would be mandatory, within a very short period of time.

Just add one more judge so that there is a judge on all four sides.... also let the referee score rounds like they used to, he is closer to the action that anyone else. That's 5 scores, I really feel that it would reduce some (not all) of the BS decisions we have been seeing.

If it is an even fight, it is an even fight. What's the big deal? If you are going by points then there probably is no clear winner regardless.
