What if Tyson and RJJ won Gold Medals?

Obviously, Tyson and RJJ never won the Gold medal at the Olympics. They went on to become the legends that they are.

We've seen fighters who DID win Gold medals like Howard Davis and David Reid but they didn't seem to be able to achieve the success that they seem to be destined for.

If Tyson and RJJ won Gold, do you think it would have altered their destinies somehow?

It might have given Tyson even more hype if that would have been possible but RJJ basically did win the Gold anyways. Anyone who was not blind could see that.

Do you think that RJJ's mgmt would have been more cautious, or more complacent, if he won the Gold? In his 3rd pro bout, he fought a 16-1-1 Ron Amundsen. I can't see him getting rushed like that if he had won gold.

Remember that after his 3rd or early fights, RJ Senior made Roy fight some bums because he was scared of Roy surpassing him.

A gold medal might have meant different management. Management causes matchups, and determines many important variables.

So yes, they might have been better OR worse. RJJ always talked like he had something to prove and fought like he was sparring. At the least, maybe he wouldn't have feared facing DM in Germany.

Tyson might have been straighter, felt a sense of achievement. But look at what happened to Tyrell Biggs...

Tyson's rise to the top was pretty fast anyway as he was very well managed before signing up with King. But all the money and attention from winning gold may have ruined Mike earlier as we saw how quickly he succumbed to the lure of the high life.

Jones would have probably travelled to fight DM but in terms of early opposition it would have been pretty similar as Jones Sr did over protect him early on. Only real difference it may have made is that Jones would have turned pro straight after the Olympics instead of almost a year later and would have got a title shot earlier perhaps. He would have also had more crossover appeal and made more money.

But I wonder if he would have fell by the wayside ala David Reid afterwards.....

RJJ won the gold medal, that absolute JUNK that happened in the finals was investigated and those filth that judged all got banned. RJJ IS a gold medalist and I don't give a damn about what happened there, I saw the fight, it was BRUTALLY one-sided that even when I let girls that know nothing about boxing watch it laugh out loud at the result.

Don't think so, RJJ turned pro knowing that he IS a gold medalist, after the investigations that took place he KNEW that he's a gold medalist or else that robbery would've been ignored if he lost.

Tyson I don't really think it would've changed anything, I mean Tillman beat Tyson and won Gold in the end yet when they met as professionals we all saw what happened. Tyson lost fair and square simply because Tillman was taller and had the reach advantage with a pretty good defense to score points at will, Tyson had to stalk and get hit sometimes in order for him to land something, not really a great tactic in the Olympics. Tyson has already done excellent as a professional, don't think winning Gold would've changed his mentality, it simply can't get better than what he already proved to be. Same thing for RJJ, who I repeat, IS a gold medalist.
