This. He fought with heart and showed championship grit in that fight. If someone hasn't give him credit by now, they never will.

 

Indeed, there will always be haters. Funny enough, if he had lost the decision, I suspect he would have got more credit from a good number of people.

The controversy about the decision (somewhat justified IMO, even if "robbery" is too strong a word) overshadowed any recognition of the way Ward got back into the fight after being out of his depth in the first two rounds.

 

Not at the moment, it's all about HW now. Once GGG-Canelo becomes relevant, they will be out full force.

 

Well considering their reaction to the boxing world - on the whole - scoring the fight against him I think you're wrong.

If someone told before the fight that Ward would get whobbled by a jab in the 1st round, get dropped hard in the 2nd, and found a way to get back in the fight, go all 12 rounds and even do enough to win at least 4 clear rounds, they'd be considered trolls and Ward nuthuggers by Kovalev supporters. The determination and the impeccable mental strength that Ward demonstrated in the fight against a very skilled opponent with size, strength and immense power advantage gets overlooked because of the controversy surrounding the first fight.

He would have got lots more credit if he'd been honest about the decision. 85% of boxing pundits gave the fight to Kovalev. To hear Ward & Hunter talk you'd think Ward kicked ass. He didn't it was a close fight. Lets hope the rematch is a fair fight, fairly officiated with the better man on the night getting the deserved win. Sadly in Vegas this is not always the case
