What do you think would take place if these two were to fight in the r primes? Bother are very good left-handers, Cotto being the agressive constantly moving forward puncher, while Whitaker being the slick and hard to catch elusive counter puncher. I think it would be a great matchup of styles, however I'm not sure who would win. One view would point to Whitaker beating Cotto the way Mayweather would do if they were to fight, however if Cotto is able to beat Mosley in their upcoming fight, I don't see any reason not to give Cotto a good chance at being able to beat Whitaker (and probably Mayweather on a later date). Cotto also seems to do very well against southpaws, low-blows aside, as his constant barrage of left hooks to the body took a huge toll of Judah. What do you guys think?
Sweet Pea by a mile. Not that it would be easy for him but he just wouldnt give Miguel a look in. If you are good enough to force a prime sweet pea to run you aint ever going to catch him.
Why are people saying Cotto vs. Mosley would give an indication towards Cotto vs. Whitaker? Mosley and Whitaker have completely different styles.... As for the question... Whitaker by way of landslide. Edit: Consider some of the wide hooks that Cotto throws, the ones that carry all of his weight and knock some people out. Whitaker would not only slip them, but be literally right behind Cotto by the time he was done throwing the punch.
Whitaker would beat his head in something vicious. This fight would not even be competitive, just look like it is due to Cotto's tenacity.
Cotto would be coming forward, throwing punishing shots, but Whitaker would be sticking the jab out, moving, making him miss, countering - virtually making Cotto's aggression ineffective. Whitaker by UD 118-110
We know what Whitaker can do aganst a puncher who likes to move forward. Whitaker made Chavez look like a mear mortal. He would beat Cotto easy 10 rounds to 2 rounds.
Yah, cuz Trinidad could have done that to a prime Sweet Pea Whitaker by UD But I doubt we have seen Cotto's prime yet.
