im a big time wlad fan and im not too sure, yes of course wlad has improved a lot more mature better defense better foot work much smater with his punches but sanders was so tough for 5 or 6 rounds very dangerous good punch fast hands lots of courage unlike most guys wlad faces now he was not afraid to get hit to land
sanders would win.............south paw with super quick hands.............and a viscious staight left hand..............spells DOOOOOOM 4 wlad...
Wlad would jab him to a boring decision, or a very late KO. Wlad came in to the first round COLD as ice...Dunno if he didn't have time to warm up in the back, or just straight up was that confident in his abilities, but had to be the dumbest move of his career. Back then even if he'd have came in warmer I would have given him a shot. He's a Much much better fighter now though, but wish he would work his inside game some more. I don't think Sanders would get to his chin the way he fights now (or at least not enough).
That wasn't even the best Sanders that he fought. That Sanders was coming off a layoff. Prime for prime, I think Sanders handles him just like that. Wlad couldn't get away from those fast straight punches because he doesn't move his upper body much, and he still doesn't.
Had it been the best Sanders... not a Sanders who only had about 3 rounds in 3 years and was completely overlooked and forgotten... then Wlad would have turned up just as he has for all of the other best fighters that he fought... at his best. Wlad moves his upper body a good bit... and much more than that... has great footwork. The clear problem for Wlad in that fight was that he was completely lazy... wreckless... and throwing silly power punches without setting them up, or even having the proper opening. It's rather obvious when watching the fight that Wlad was thinking he had an easy nights work in front of him... and that he was just going to knock Sanders out with one good shot. Everything else is being extremely overdone and overanalyzed. Sanders as his best was always a very quick, strong puncher with questionable stamina and limited actual boxing ability. His talent took him as far as it could during his prime and his best win coming at a late age... and being unable to do anything to follow up with it afterward just further proves that point. Sanders knew he dodged a bullet, and he openly avoided a rematch with Wladimir after their fight (before his fight with Vitali). Sanders gave a video interview with Maxboxing where he talked about how Wlad had really been pushing him for a rematch, but he wouldn't fight Wlad again unless he beat Vitali in their upcoming fight. If Sanders believed what some of you guys do... then he would have took that easy big money once again to knock Wlad out in easy fashion. Clearly, he knew better.
Vlad would have knocked Sanders out in a rematch period. Vlad did not train for the Sanders fight, he didn't even bother to spar, while Sanders had been training for months, preparing to fight Valouev in South Africa, in fact Sanders refused to give Vlad a rematch. I posted this "before" Vlad fought Sanders and ESB, Boxing.de, etc., even wrote Klaus Peter Kohl and e-mailed a member of Team Klitschko. Vlad had never seen Sanders fight..............stupid decision by Kohl!
I guess I should not be surprised that so many are picking Sanders in this match up. Wlad really missed an opportunity in never getting a rematch with Sanders, people will always have their doubts now. But Wlad showed in rematches with Peter and Brewster that he has clearly improved, so it's more than possible this new and improved Wlad would do the same with Sanders in a rematch. But I guess we will never know for sure and can only speculate.
On the other side of the coin, were Peter and Brewster honestly the same fighters when Wlad re-matched them???
wlad wins ray austin style hahaha...wlad wins late stoppage or ud depending on how much punishment sanders wants to endure..
