People are saying that Abril last weekend was boring, or fighters like Mayweather may not be exciting to watch to casual boxing fans because of how the way he fights.

They all just want to see an action packed fight toe to toe. Knock downs etc but in boxing dont you just love to see a fight with great boxing skills, Hit and dont get it sort of fight or an all out brawl like Morales vs Barrera 1?

    thoughts?

Abril was actually using illegal tactics to avoid mixing it up at times. This has been accepted as slick. Hopkins has head butted people in the groin, punched legs, grabbed - many many great fighters employ equally great dirty tactics. Scoring has come to reward spoiling tactics, but neither guy looked great. that's why Abril in particular will be labeled boring - he fights to avoid allowing the other fighter to get off, which is not what Mayweather always does. In the minds of the "boxer" generation, limiting contact and landing ineffective punches when you can is outboxing, but it is actually spoiling the fight to some degree if you are not in CLEAR control as Mayweather is at his best.

Holding another fighter's punching arm is illegal.

Honestly, I'd much prefer a fight like Mayweather-JMM/Mosley than a drunken pub brawl like Froch-Kessler.

Oh, and calling Morales-Barrera just a brawl, would be a disservice, in my opinion. I know that's not what you were saying. Just thought I'd remind that that brawl involved a little bit of skill and technique, too.

Fighters with no power are boring to me. They can't keep their opponent off of them unless they run or hold.

You don't need to have crazy power, just enough to get the other guys respect. Like Ward, he's defensive but he doesn't just try to survive in there, he has enough pop to back the other guy off. When both fighters respect eachother in there, that's what makes an interesting fight for me.

The mystery of when will the fight end also adds excitement. Will it be a one round fight, or a twelve round fight?

I HATE Mosley's style. So sloppy and jittery.

Fighters who purposely grab and hold to avoid engaging (Wlad, Hopkins) or simply do not press the gas when they could obviously end the fight (Wlad, sometimes Mayweather) are boring.

To much holding like Abril, Andre Ward and Devon Alexander

To much running like Ottke, Dirrell and Brad Solomon

No Punch like Malignaggi and 99% from the German fighters.

If a limited fighter goes out of his shield to entertain the paying public or the cheap ones who stream the internet, it would never be boring. It is simply because he fought with his heart.

However, if an extremely talented, supernatural God opts to display his long range arsenal, with a severe phobia of getting hit against that limited fighter mentioned above, then it is boring.

Example, watching baldomir was not boring, but watching Gayweather was.

Hopkins is a boring fighter...Floyd and Abril are magical slick fighters...they avoid punches, counterpunch, footwork, very smooth...Hopkins is a crafty unappealing fighter..thats it

A fighter that is watched by people who don't understand the sport.

Seriously, it is a fighter who doesn't capitalize on opportunity when presented. I see nothing wrong with fighting a smart fight, but when a guy isn't going for the kill or decisive win? It is boring.

Also, two evenly matched guys with too much defense and too little offense technique AND no power. Nothing is worse than seeing two guys slapping each other due to leaky defense while having absolutely ZERO affect on the opponent.

I didn't see any "great boxing skills" from Abril. Dude has a shitty style and Rios was not good enough to solve it. Simple.
