Im considering switching south paw permanently, however my only issue is defense. I have really perfect my defense from the orthodox stance, with a chin tucked shoulder roll and sometimes a traditional high guard. I feel as a southpaw the shoulder roll is useless however, because I would be very vulnerable to straight rights and right hooks to the body. Any ideas for a south paw defense? I can't move like sergio martinez haha fyi
reading your post, i have the same orthodox defence. when i switch to southpaw i defend in the style of martinez but use footwork to stay out of range. winky probably had the best defence for southpaw that can be e replicated
OP 1 of the most important aspects of boxing southpaw is learning the angles/footwork positioning in relation to your orthodox opponent, learning to circle in and out to take away certain punches.
I can use footwork when on the outside, but on the inside, my only defense thus far has been to hurl mother ****ing left uppercuts to the body as hard as I can until they back off hahaha. It becomes a little too predictable after a while.
