Been trying to find out, he seems to counterpunch a lot but I haven"t seen many of his fights so I can't call him a counterpuncher straight off the mark without knowing how he fought in other fights. In boxing you have the following styles... Outside fighter Inside fighter Slugger Boxer-puncher Counterpuncher What style would you class Hopkins as ?
If you were to give him a label, it would probably be spoiler. Carlos Molina should be included under the same category. Spoiler would cover every label and include heavy intential fouls, grabbing, and holding and disruption techniques.
He has no label, it's why he's one of the best ever. Any style you can think of, Nard has executed it during his career. At a push, he's a defensively orientated Boxer Puncher during his prime.
Spoiler, anti-boxer who fights not to lose decisively when facing someone on a similar level rather than actually trying to win.
Ambush-fighter. His style has almost always been based around leading opponents into little ambushes all over the ring. Versatile fighter though.
I'd call him a boxer. Does everything textbook with a layer of veteran improvisation on top. He can box at range, he can pressure & lead or counter, he can box laterally and take away the angle for ambush fighters, or he can become an ambush fighter himself, he can fight inside, he can fight with his shoulder low or a peekaboo guard, he can spoil and grapple, he can fight off the ropes or control the center for entire fights. The consummate boxer.
Just watched another two of his fights and a few "highlights" videos. For me he's a boxer puncher. Can box on.the outside, on the inside, he can counter well and is defensively sound. Would most of you agree with boxer-puncher ?
When exactly did this apply? :blood I suppose the closest your bull**** description of him gets is the Dawson fight and he was ****ing ancient for that one and didn't exactly fare terrible either. Last time I checked, he went toe to toe with hard-hitting LHW Pascal.
He's always been a counter puncher from early on. He's extremely cagey, and he's got that old school cagey Philly style. Very smart , very dirty type fighter, who knows what he can get away with and push those limits. not a risk taker, just trying to pull out the W, while absorbing the least amount of damage.
