I know simple carbs after a workout is reccomended but i think the recovery supplements etc are a waste of money and was wondering if fruit or veg could be used instead with a protien source

Personally I just eat a bowl of cereal with added nuts.

Milk plus nuts = protein, cereal = carbs, works for me.

Add sugar if you want more simple carbs or add fruit to the cereal, you can do whatever you want to do with it.

The cereal suggestion is good... You wouldn't want just fruit or veg, fruit replaces liver glycogen stores instead of muscle glycogen mostly and vegies aren't going to do anything for you. You can have your fruit and a glass of milk and that's all you'd need.

Thanks. I usually use fruit for the convience of taking it with me and would the cereal still be good if my workouts are rather late?

Juice some coconut water, oranges, bananas and grapes. Good stuff.

I usually go with: banana, apple/orange, milk, nuts. Oatmeal with nutella or peanut butter, if I get home soon enough.

Lefty would you recommend a homemade shake which has around 30g of carbs/ mainly or all simple carbs even though my workout ends late at lke 9pm? Or does the time not matter?
