Do you really buy into this BS ? People buy it to see him lose ! Only the US pays big dollars for PPV . In 15 years time people will look back and say " How did they sell that **** "
I didn't vote on the poll because I think your choices are constrained. Boxing is about two talented athletes doing whatever they need to do within the rules to claim victory. I have my preferred styles like anyone else, but I have great admiration for professional fighters who are willing to put their lives on the line for our entertainment, for their own financial security and for the love of competition. It doesn't matter if it's Eder Jofre or Ruslan Provodnikov, it's a humbling experience to watch these guys dedicate themselves to such an aesthetically pleasing and dramatic sport. At the highest level, nothing really comes close in my estimation.
You forgot the 3rd and correct option, money. Boxing is about money unfortunately, but then again most things are
Its about winning which is not getting hit,the fans aren't getting paid the fighter who wins does and has a career.:blackeye
[BUMP] No need to make a new thread. Wondering what are some examples of sweet science fights...not fighters. DLH-Mosley I to me was a great display of calculating, measuring, timing and countering, frequently! And when they both proved even---at times a fight would break out. 2nd fight was deplorable in my boldest opinion. Whitaker vs Chavez. I expected to see Swee-pea use his legs a lot. He didn't. At time he stayed in the pocket, his positioning kept in range to hit, and with a step here or pivot he was out of range of being hit. He spun Julio, he countered him .a few low blows I admit, but other than that. That was a great display of a Sweet Science style employed by Pernell to nullify everything JCC usually was successful at. Mayweather vs Canelo/Cotto/Pacqiuao He's a master at nullifying an aggressive fighter's style. Hopkins vs Trinidad/Pavlik/Pascal Against Tito, the one fight he kept moving. Kept his back to the ropes- BUT kept moving. I think he had to adapt. About 2 times he tried that clinch/shi#t...Didn't work. Both times I noticed Tito used his elbow to push off Hop's collar bone. I literally think Hop had to go to plan B...and that was continuing to move..along with his back to the ropes and counter every time. And that soft push helped that last knockdown. LIke Jordan last shot to win NBA finals, he did a soft push..should've been called on both, but they did it at the right time. Against Pavlik & Pascal, neither fighter will go hard full 3 minutes. Hop knew it and milked it to go 12 rounds. Pavlik's best is extending his arms to gain power, so Hop played in close. Pav aint a short range shooter. As Hop's combos landed while standing inside the eye of the storm, not outside it. He would've got dropped. As he dubbed Pascal a clubber, he knew those shots were looping. Step in, pivot shoot & CLINCH!!! REPEAT process. And now the young dude is as tired as the old dude.
As brutal as JCC vs Rosario was, it still required some technical inside skills employed by JCC. Never seen a fighter block shots raising his elbow like a chicken wing.
It's all about inflicting more damage on your opponent than he inflicts on you. Like someone said earlier there's many ways to skin a cat.
Boxing has and always will be about outpointing, finesse, defense and skills. Knockouts IMO are extra curricular
I admit there are times when an all out brawler does make for excitement. James Kirkland comes to mind. Flat footed, stiff necked, squared up, but damn he beat Joel Julios azz like that. Alfed Angulo and a decent boxing Glen Tapia. No Sweet Sciense whatsoever. Michael Katsidis is another one. He'll throw punches from any angle. Even thought Aaron Pryor could box when he wanted to, he usually got dropped due to being off balanced while trying to land..aka PerPetual Motion Pryor. And the final few round Shavers had against Holmes, everything he threw was sloppy as shyt. He was so tired, he looked relieved when the ref stopped the fight. And when Tua had his knockout streek going they were just superhaymakers. Nothing proper about his shots. So devastating I guess it didn't matter.
