I would say the Howard Davis fight in early '87. Camacho looked sharp in his first foray into the 140 lb. division. Sadly, he did not capitalize on it and took over a full year off. When he returned against Reyes Cruz in summer '88 he looked medicore. If he'd stayed focused he could have gone after one of the 140 lb. titles in '87 - against the likes of a Coggi or Roger Mayweather. The Davis fight marked the end of Camacho's peak in my opinion.

Rosario wrecked Camacho's career .. coming into the fight Hector was one of the best pound for pound fighters in the world and on the verge of superstardom .. after the fight he was never, ever the same ..

I agree with the Davis fight, close fight and probably the fight with the fastest pair of boxers ever (Taylor vs Davis too)

Vinny Paz. He frustrated him despite Vinny fighting dirty, shoving with elbow, coming with head first all the time.

Vinny himself said in interview when he's speaking of Camacho's death , his fight against him was probably his last great fight.

i dont believe Rosario ruined Camacho. this is unrealistic to say one fight did it

if that were so, he would not have dominated Davis

as one can clearly see, a heavier Camacho is a slower Camacho. in short, he ate himself out of his prime

the good life, becoming complacent in training, discipline, drugs, sex, etc. I've studied the man. to say one fight ruined him is nonsense, simplistic

his best fight since Davis? Ray Leonard

This fight surprised people as hector, much the smaller man, actually PUSHED the fight, pressuring the bigger man, gave him no rest, and got him out of his rhythm. Leonard does not like being pushed at such a quick pace

Ray fired his best shot point blank in the second and Hector walked right thru it, then proceeded to outpunch Ray at a 50:1 ratio
holding the head with one hand, then banging it with the other. But there was nothing Ray or his camp could do since the ref was never in position to see any of it. it was beautiful. it was a public raping...

    and I loved it

People tend to make sounds like Rosario punch stopped Camacho while it didnt even knock him down once. Reyes Cruz floored Camacho in first round, hit him flush on his chin and Camacho fell flat on his face, yet he fought back and won by UD dominating most of that fight.

First fighter to wobbled Camacho? Solis did that, but Camacho came back and stopped him.

Yea I agree that Rosario 5th round thing is being overblown.

Also, if Camacho is safety first fighter, why would he took such a beating by Chavez and didnt quit? If he's afraid of getting punch after Rosario fight, explain why he went to full 12 rounds against Chavez, Trinidad and DLH, taking tons of powerfull punches in the process.

Like Tyson, he lived a wild & reckless life and spent more time on partying & drugs.

Camacho`s lifestyle more than anything was responsible for his decline. It was the 80s man. He wasn't the only one or even the most extreme example of living in the fast lane during that decade. I always found Hector interesting. I liked the way he spoke his mind. I was a fan.

    close fight?

it was a shutout for Hector. Nothing Howard could do to change it as hector consistently beat him to the punch andmade him look like like he was in slo mo

Hector did the same to Coverson, Loy, Ramirez and Ray Leonard (when Hector was past his prime)

I was thinking about Davis vs Taylor to be honest, but i still don't believe that it was a shutout either.
