Both Mayweather and Cotto have every right not to fight GGG canelo is much bigger then these 2 fighters which makes this duck pathetic and on top of that he was the champion and gave his belt up Canelo is the biggest puto in the sport
So Khan is a warrior for fighting Canelo at 155, refusing to fight Canelo at 160? Khan took that challenge like a warrior, at 155. But Canelo, who is willing to fight GG at 160 (not at 155 like Khan needed, who you praised) is a disgrace? That makes a lot of sense. You know, Canelo is trying to step up to challenge GG at a weight hes NEVER fought at before, 160 lb. Thats hardly disgraceful. He wants to make the fight he just doesnt want to deal with the WBCs BS. Its disgraceful what the WBC did trying to assert their authority, and Canelo responded for vacating the title. If you listened to what he said in the post fight of the Khan fight (what he said in espanol, not what the translator said) this is very consistent with what he said. Its not disgraceful for a fighter to want to engage freely in negotiations to make a Mega Fight. Some of the stuff that Khan did was disgraceful. (and I like Khan as a fighter and I respect him for moving up and taking on a tough challenge) Khan was making excuses all camp about how Canelo had all the advantages, blah blah blah and how 155 is Canelos weight. (meanwhile that weight was what Khan needed, said he wouldnt have fought Canelo at 160 .. something that would be so terribly disgraceful if Canelo did to GG, though it was perfectly fine when Mayweather drained Canelo to 152 right) After getting KTFO, Khan once again complained about the weight acting, making excuses like it was the weight that knocked him out, not Canelo. Thats disgraceful. Canelos just trying to get a fair shake when it comes to making a fight with GG, and the WBC wasnt treating him right, they were telling Canelo what he had to do and when he had to do it by and not letting Canelo negotiate freely to make the fight. So soon after the big win over Khan, thats disgraceful and disrespectful to Canelo.
Canelo made the conscious decision to campaign at 160, for the WBC MW Belt, at that!! Floyd didn't whoop his ass so bad that he woke up in the MW division with no way out! Damn, I like watching Canelo fight as much as anyone else, but you can't excuse what he's done now. It reeks of cowardice (whether we call it a business move or not).
This was the argument many white champions used in the 30s and 40s to avoid outstanding black contenders. I'm not saying you support racism in sports, just the tools of oppression used by racists in sports, or you could just be trolling.
Floyd didnt whoop Canelo ass at all. Fight was even. 114-114. Even while drained, Canelo got a Majority decision on Floyd. How many fighters can say that? That elevates Canelo to ATG status right there. And after fighting Canelo, Floyd did in fact hold the 154-lb division hostage by being allowed (by these same commissions) to hold a title for 2 years (against their own rules) without ever defending it, all the while preventing Canelo from fighting for those 154-lb titles. So yeah, with Floyd being too scared to rematch Canelo, the biggest fight out there was vs Cotto at MW. (at the 155 that Cotto demanded) Do you blame Canelo for taking that fight? Of course not, but that sure dont make Canelo a full MW. What has he done? He vacated a title that many people were already criticizing him for holding in the first place. (since he wasnt defending it at 160 lb right) The guy wants to fight GG, he just doesnt want to be dictated to and given arbitrary deadlines by the WBC. No es mamadas !! Screw the WBC, if GG dont want to fight the Lineal MW Champ, The Man who beat the Man who beat the Man, then GG aint gonna be the man, and there aint a damn thing you can do about it.
You are factually correct: Floyd won a MD over Canelo, meaning it could even warrant a re-match if the money is right. But Canelo chose to fight Cotto for the MW belt. I'm not saying he shouldn't have fought him, because the money was good, it was good win for him against a well known boxer and former champ, and he received the 160 belt. I'm saying he could have relinquished the belt right after the fight to show he had no intention of remaining at 160. All I'm saying is that if you stay in a division for awhile as a belt holder, you should expect to fight the best in that division. I don't think that's unreasonable. So IMO he held on to the belt too long and now he's getting a bad rap because it looks like he doesn't want to fight GGG. In a week or two, if both sides work out a deal to fight this year, I'll be impressed, and happy as a boxing fan.
And if he relinquishes the belt after beating Cotto, then what does that do for him? Then he has no belt, and without that belt he never gets the Khan fight or that impressive KO since Khans not going to fight Canelo in a non-title fight. He did in fact consider fighting Liam Smith, presumably for Smith's 154-lb title, which would have required him to vacate the MW WBC title right, but then the Khan fight came along which was probably a bigger fight here in America than vs Smith so he kept that title and fought Khan at 155. I dont know about you, but I think Canelo has managed this quite well. The Khan fight was entertaining, and we wouldn't have seen that fight had he relinquished the title after fighting Cotto. Many are presuming that Canelo vacated the title because he doesnt want to fight GG at 160 lb or that hes scared of GG or something. I dont think its that at all, I think its the disrespect he received from the WBC with these deadlines and conditions that forced him to vacate. He said as much in the Khan post fight interview, so if you picked up on the espanol it shouldnt be a huge shock. (granted I was surprised and disappointed when I heard he was vacating, but I think there are legit reasons why he did it) Fair points, I think Canelo has expressed interest in fighting the best in the division. (in this case GG) I think Canelo is actually willing to fight GG next, but he deserves a fair shake in negotiations and not having everything dictated to him by the WBC, i.e. giving him deadlines where if he doesnt agree to GGs demands 2 weeks after his fight, he could get stripped? Its hugely insulting and disrespectful to a fighter of Canelos caliber coming off such a huge win, and I dont blame him for vacating this title. Maybe now he and GG can come to the table more naturally and freely without the WBC telling him what he can do. I get that the WBC wants to see Canelo vs GG next, but thats no excuse for how they handled it since the Khan fight. I dont know how you can say he held on to the belt too long when less than 2 weeks ago he had his 1st defense of that title! If he vacated the title after beating Cotto, hes in the same situation hes in now, only without the impressive Khan KO with GG in attendance to help build up that fight. In Canelos mind, vacating that title doesnt seem to be something preventing a GG fight from happening. In fact, to him it appeared as if holding that title made it harder to make the fight. So now were going to find out what kind of a Champion GG is. Does he desire to take on the Lineal MW Champ in Canelo, the Light Middleweight who beat the Man who Beat the Man of the MW division. Or does GG run away to fight more random MW now that he has the belt handed to him? Does he want that PPV Career - Defining Fight vs a name opponent like Canelo that is severely lacking on his resume? I guess well find out soon enough. It seems counter productive for Canelo to vacate the WBC title, to make the fight with GG, but a lot of this depends on Golovkin. Would you lose respect for GG if he just takes this belt and runs with it with Canelo eager to make the fight happen?
