Price and Wilder came out of the same Olympics and Wilder has twice as many fights. I always wondered why Price was so inactive as he clearly needed more work. If you are going to fight bums at least be active like Tyson was when he turned pro. His first 18 fights or so were embarrassing also and he had an Amateur Pedigree that Wilder didn't have. Wilder should be fighting every two months with the line of guys he has fought.
...speaking of which, I still want to see Price and Wilder in a "Battle of the '08 Bronze". (or either vs. Glazkov, which is the only alternate permutation since the Cuban fellow who nabbed the fourth bronze among the heavies/super heavies naturally didn't turn pro)
Deontay Wilder is turning 28 this month. He's been a pro 5 years now. Wladimir Klitschko had him first pro fight on Nov 15, 1996 at age 20. Then he had 17 fights in his first 14 months as a pro, against the expected soft opposition. But towards the end of his third year, he was fighting decent, durable opponents like Axel Shultz, who had never been down before fighting Wlad. In his 4th year, he fought prime Monte Barrett (who had never been down before) and then Chris Byrd, winning the WBO title at age 24. Deontay Wilder had his first pro fight on Nov 15, 2008. He had 8 fights against the expected soft opposition in his first 14 months as a pro. But by his 3rd year, instead of fighting decent journeymen, he still fought very soft opposition. At the end of his 5th year, he's still fighting easy opposition at age 28. Deontay is still a work in progress, and I think he may have great potential. But he should at least be fighting decent DURABLE journeymen like Kevin Johnson and Dominick Guinn after 5 years as a pro. He can't improve fighting shot boxers like Sergey Lyakhovich (who had just 2 wins in 7 years), old men like Audley Harrison, pot-bellied clubfighters like Greer, or retired middleweights like Marlon Hayes.
People are being overly harsh on him. This year has been pretty decent a step up for Wilder. Audley, Liakovich and Firtha are alright foes within a year for a prospect. It's better than Price's pre Thompson fights.
Again you are trying to make a comparison to ONE fighter. I can show many fighters who started their careers just like Wilder yet you show no scorn for them. I wonder why. :nono
I've never called him a top 10 fighter so I don't know where you're getting that. And Wlad was being hyped by plenty of boxing scribes coming out of the Olympics. There wasn't as much hype because the internet was relatively new. And again. different fighter develop faster than others. Instead of harping on about Jennings why don't you tell me why Stiverne, Thompson a Wach to longer than 5 years to fight anyone good but do not catch the same ridicule?
He was also coming off a loss against Ross Purrity, and stepped it up and fought Axel Schulz in his 30th fight.
You've never fought or even stepped into a ring phony ailment boy, you have no clue what it takes to develop a fighter.
Let's not be unfair to Wilder. If Axel Schulz came out of retirement, he would probably be the first to fight him.
heres the difference which you seem to not get...... 1) he is the first olympic medalist at heavyweight from the u.s. in 20 years. 2) he is promoted by golden boy, one of the top 2 promotions in the world 3) his 30th fight is against a guy with 10 losses and is an off tv undercard fight whats wrong with this picture? Ray Mercer made his pro debut on a televised ppv undercard of a giant PPV. Mercer didnt even turn pro till he was 27 and didnt start boxing until his early 20's. he is being kept a dirty little secret rather than being promoted by someone as huge as golden boy. you never even see this guy on TV being interviewed. the jokes on the american people , wilder makes david haye look like the truth
Don't worry... I was giving Seth Mitchell the same **** before he got exposed, Wilder isn't the only one I pick on As a fan it's my duty to look for and point out frauds like Wilder and Mitchell.
And here is what you don't seem to get....fighters are brought along at different rated do to experience and ability. We know he has very little experience, that can't be argued. We also know he's athletically gifted. What we don't know is how fast he's picking up instruction on this sport most fighters have had longer amateur careers than his am/pro combined.
I can't find your record on BoxRec. My heath problems are all too real, and can be proven with links and my log-ins to a provincial government website. But your career as a boxer never really happened.
