If that is true, remember that both were 130 more or less at weigh in and they are of the same weight category. That evened up any disadvantage before the fight. JMM had the option to bulk up more than he wanted to. What's your problem w/ that?

i think i agree with you in principle but dont go too overboard

the weight divisions are there for a reason and should be respected. pac wont do himself favours cos if he fights and beats boiled down welters, people will feel those wins were more due to the opponents weight rather than his awesome talent

I remember Mosley used to weigh in at 150 fight night after weighing in at 135. He'd probably weigh even more now.

Precisely because Pac and Cotto are not of the same weight category. If Cotto cannot make the catchweight, then he should say it so. No one is forcing him to fight Pac. It's his choice whether he wants to have a bigger payday or not.

but isn't it clear that Pacquiao's natural weight is not 147lbs? If he moves up to a division he doesnt feel comfortable, then why would he do that? It's Mosley/Cotto for instance who are trying all they can to get him in the ring, saying will come down etc. Why on earth would Pacquiao say "i'll fight you, but don't come down, i'll come up to your weight and you can outweigh me 12lbs on fight night"

    It'd be stupid of him?

Surely they can move down 3 or 4lbs to level the playing field. Just like Hopkins did when he fought Pavlik.

It's worth bearing in mind that even at 144lbs, Mosley would outweigh Pacquiao on fight night by a good 8lbs plus

it is a bit ridiculous....pac is an inch shorter than cotto...and has identical reach....its pretty easy to see that pacs frame can take 147 without losing much if anything at all...he isnt a starving teenager constantly catching diarrhea from eating crap anymore...so enough of all that 106lbs bull****....

A guy with Paul Williams in his avatar, a dude that fights midgets at welter shouldn't even make this thread.

Thats my point. If Pac can fight JMM at 130 and gain 10+ pounds over night its a disadvantage right? So whats the difference if Cotto/Mosley fight Pac at 145 and gain 10+ pounds?

The **** is ****ing stupid and beat to death. Pac can still make 135. And probably be extremely drained at 130. Are you guys high or just stupid.

Two men different sizes compromise weight to somewhat even out the field. Its been happening ever since there were weightclasses. Only since Pac schooled Hoya is there all this bull****. Remember Hoya was at weight weeks before the fight so you can hardly say drained. Also the proposed Floyd rematch was to be at the welter limit.

Recent catchweights that come to mind.

    Pav-Taylor2

    Hop-Pav

    Hop-Hoya

just a couple that no one had any complaints about.

Good point bringing these two up. The first one was a new weight for both. On the second two fights, the fighter coming down a few pounds was the fighter that won.

:patsch Between you and me, there would hardly be no difference because we are not boxers.

Fine let them weigh in the same day or let them come to 140. Pac is the man and theres no reason for him to give in to all the naturally bigger mens advantages.
