I think that is a question that needs input because it seems that a lot of fighters are referred to as great and ATG's and I just don't see it. I see fighters lacking basic techniques and fundamentals being called great fighters. Is Tyson Fury great?, or Ward or Canelo, or Kov or Wilder. Who do you make the case for. There are a lot of excellent fighters out there but great. Too many people listening to Lampley and Kellerman and other commentators descriptions of fighters skill level. I think greatness is acquired through time.

Nobody calls Canelo or Wilder great. I'll rate Ward as a great if he wins the rematch against Kovalev.

Greatness is measured by accomplishments. Quality of opposition, longevity at the top, dominance etc.

    Fury, Canelo, Wilder. No.

Ward, Kovalev I think they're more like "potentially great", Ward is very close now and Kovalev could get there also.

This is an example of moving the goal posts. Just admit you'll never give Ward his due.

And what goal post did I move? I think Ward beat Kovalev. But winning a razor thin fight that could have went either way is not exactly the stuff of legends. If Ward proves his superiority to Kovalev unequivocally the next time around, he gets into the club. At least in my book.

Yeah, I tend to agree with that assessment in that greatness requires a body of work. Yet I hear Kellerman refer to Ward and Kov as great fighters. Great compared to what. Why is Ali or Duran considered great. What is the connecting thread that leads to greatness.
