I disagree with some of the posts listed above. I talked to two friends today, both of whom are not boxing fans, and both of whom just recently got into boxing because of Kelly Pavlik. Both watched the fight last night, both loved Haye and can't wait to see him fight again. Once he fights heavyweight, if he can put together a win or two, he will be huge. Another thing that will help him is if he fights in the States. Hatton actually started to get people talking when he made his trip across the pond. The group of friends that I regularly watch sports with started talking about Hatton like they'd been following him for years.

He has already fought at heavy. Its a 100 per cent certainty.

    Nice to hear something positive.

Perhaps big USA vs UK fights can spark public interest - a chance to get behind your man for a big international event always gets the juices flowwing. Theres a few that could be made, and obviously Joe vs Hops coming up soon.

Outside of hardcore boxing fans like us, nobody's ever heard of him.

I really think Boxing is picking up some steam in the States. Maybe I'm just being optimistic, but my friends are talking about the sport a lot more. And they haven't followed it since Tyson. Sports Illustrated actually has done a boxing article or feature three out of the last four weeks. The US-UK grudge match does always help. It helped with Hatton-Mayweather, it will help with Joe-BHop and it will help with whoever Haye fights. With Haye's look, too, and modeling experience, I can't help but seeing him make it big time in the US. He wins a heavyweight title, and he'll be on Oprah.

Yes, I realize he has fought there, but fighting there once in a while inbetween fights and starting a real career there are different.

I'm not saying he will or won't, just that last night was a good launching point.

the cruiserweight is not higf profile division in the US... so I doubt people outside of die hard boxing fans know who David Haye is. He can be big in the US if he does good at HW.

Although the Europeans will never agree... Our best heavyweight champ is playing another high paid sport. This is why the talent (or lack there of) is over eastside.

If you are a big, strong, athletic kid growing up in the USA, there are a ton of organized sports to get into. Baseball, Football, Basketball, even soccer. But there is nowhere to box. You really gotta know someone or happen to live near a gym, and they are not too popular. Going through High School and College, there is a big demand and hype for athletes in these sports. Boxing does not exist at the high school and college level.

The only people who box here in the USA are the rejects from the big 3 sports. If they could make it in Baseball, Basketball or Football then that is what they would play. All the way to the pros. Unfortantely, even the ones that dont make it all they way are already too old to start taking up boxing.

Im not sure how it is in Europe, but here in the USA our heavyweight boxers are by far our worst athletes.

Sure... but you get a guy like Larry Allan from the 49ers and have him train to be a fighter from the age of 12 instead of following football... WOW! He would most likely **** on all the current heavyweights!

This was the first time I have seen him fight.

I heard of the name before, but thats about it. Of course prefight there was talks of him on the board, and I read he had good power and was going up to heavy.

His power did look good, its hard to judge anything from it because it was a short fight and also I dont know how good the other guy was though they said it was a long anticipated fight.

As for his style, I thought he had good power. I noticed he kept his hands semi-low and rather than blocking them with his gloves, he let the punches go over his guard and slipped them with head movement. He didnt get hit but those punches were coming close.

Now he didnt get hit much last night and it worked, but I can see him getting hit more in with someone with good reach and speed due to the way he fights.

The first part is spot on.

The second part, about how all boxers are rejects from other sports and only box because nothings left.... are you joking?

Boxing is less popular, yes. It is doesn offer scholarships like the major sports.

But I dont think every boxer really wanted to play football or baseball but got rejected:lol:

Boxing has its nitch, some people gravitated to it for whatever reason. They saw a fight as a young kid and liked it, they got in trouble and the gym was a way to stay out, their old man used to fight and got them into it ect.
