I'm assuming you didnt even watch that fight so there is no point in debating this point !Like I said anyone with half a brain who watched that fight saw that Lacy looked like an ameteur in there .But I know a journalist's words are more credible

Lacy got destroyed, we know. It doesn't matter.

He was definitely the heavy favorite going into the fight though, that fact will not change. Calzaghe beat the **** out of him, boxed circles around him and made him look like an amateur. That's what Calzaghe does. He's that special of a fighter.

 

Lacy wasnt as bad as people make out. Back then he was seen as a good fighter. You could see the flaws in certain fights but he still did his thing an held a title. Joe beat the career out of him, after tht the shoulder injury it was curtains. He was a solid capable fighter. An not just journalists but a lot of fighters an trainers were saying hed beat joe.

 

So Joe beat a guy who was out classed already yet in the same breathe your trying to build up that fight like a clinic against a seasoned guy ? Then you wonder why his win gets overrated ..But I know American journalists were calling Lacy the next Tyson thats why it was so huge for him

Special fighters fight the best nott pick and chose who and when to fight or pad their records :good

Lacy's entire boxing career pretty much ended that night. Most people out there had him the overwhelming favorite. Calzaghe simply rose to the occasion and beat him the everloving **** out of him.

You can't devalue Calzaghe's win just because Lacy got dominated in there. Calzaghe was just significant better and adapted well to Lacy's style.

Funny you should say that. Hopkins was supposed to fight Calzaghe in 2002, and he refused/ducked the payday of his life.

 

Again anyone with half a brain knew whats was up ..The same so called journalists also picked the likes of Pavlik to KO Hopkins when they fought so again yeah they are credible ! Yeah and i'm aware of the Hopkins duck but he could have made the jump to light heavy allot sooner their were plenty of other names their as well ..But Lacy was a a novice in terms of skill hype cant give you skill!

 

He was a more than just hype. He had above average skills and chin, good power and people really believed he would give Calzaghe living hell. He completely DOMINATED Robin Reid (A very good fighter), Williams, looked ok vs Sheika and destroyed Oshana. All in all, a very good fighter. He just fought the wrong opponent in Calzaghe.

I would say that if Lacy had gone on to face anybody else in the SMW division, he wouldn't have looked that bad. His career probably would have been better than what it is now. Calzaghe beat Lacy's career out of him.

Look man, no one is saying that Lacy is extremely skilled. But he was an above average undefeated fighter whom many believed could have beaten Calzaghe. Not just American journalists, Welsh/British journalists had Calzaghe the underdog in the fight. Almost NO ONE believed he could do it. But he really showed what he's made of and proved everyone wrong. That really showed the greatness of Joe.

If Calzaghe had made the LHW transition early, we would have never seen the Lacy/Kessler/Bika fights.

I agree he could have moved to America sooner, but it's not like he was fighting all cans in the UK. Salem, Mitchell, Lacy, Bika, Kessler, Manfredo Jr are no joke.

 

Had to stop right here. Lacy had above average skill? Are you ****in kidding me? Just how many of Lacy's fights have you seen? atsch Lacy got by with what he had, a huge punch. Watch his fight vs., Richard Grant. You can count the number of jabs Lacy threw on one hand, and stil have a few digits left to finger your floyd cut out doll. Lacy was never going to amount to more then what he did. He just didn't have the skillset to advance.
