 He dominated a washed up Robin Reid come on now stop it !Lacy was fed stiff after stif and looked good against lower tier guys same as Bute but look what happens when he stepped up in class !It was no surprise to me that he was so out classed the man just relied on his power but had no other real skills to make adjustments .And Salem was a joke as was the version of Mitchell he fought we can go on and on ..He did what he had to do but he never beat any world beaters that were on his level at the time !

And had he made the jump to lt heavy earlier we could of got him and Jones or him and Darius ...There were much better fights for him at light heavy than Lacy,Kessler and Bika !

Calzaghe's resume takes a bit of unfair criticism is my opinion. he beat 2 undefeated established champions in Kessler & Lacy and has a whole host of good names like Ried, Eubank, Hopkins, Mitchell, Bika etc. Really there is not many other people he could have fought.

If you watched his fights with Vanderpool. You can see how good his timing was. His fierce jabs completely dictated the fights, very crisp boxing too.

Lacy was a very good fighter whether you want to believe it or not. Maybe it was a tad too early for him to go up against a spoiler like Calzaghe (Though he was 29). Even in the Pemberton fight, he really boxed well in the first round and really dictated the fight from the getgo.

Calzaghe's style just proved to be too much for him.

I think he could have done bigger things.

What he did imo was the better career choice, he really showed his greatness at 168. He is unanimously regarded as the GOAT of the Supermiddle class.

He could have achieved this feat a tad earlier in his career (Sure), but at the end of the day, he achieved things that not many others could. Beating undefeated fighter Kessler, Lacy. Both were pretty clear/decisive beatings.

Kessler had no idea what to do past the 4th round.

I still don't think a Jones from 2003-2008 could have beaten Calzaghe. The result would have been the same. Hopkins didn't think he could beat him either, and refused the fight.

:patsch Just STFU please. You can try to spin **** with words like "feirce jab" or "crisp boxing", but that's you being you, a troll looking to wind up posters.

It's not a knock on Lacy to say his boxing technique left a lot to be desired. He was what he was, a power puncher which decent skill, but nothing to fall back on when the other guy took his bombs.

He was widely regarded as one of the best super middleweights at the time (no doubt about it).

His boxing was definitely above average, GREAT power, great chin.

It was a beautifully fought fight by Calzaghe. The spoiler did its magic.

That's it. Nothing more nothing less

I would prefer to watch a prime Margaret Thatcher in a fight than suffer through a Calzaghe fight.

do you mean the Lacy who was shut out by shot2**** ROY JONES.

hahahahah. very good fighter? He did nothing really good except in power.

ON the other hand he wasn't bad at all, a solid thumper with a heart of oak. Calzaghes best win up to that date (although that's not all that considering the previous ten years of largely awful defences)

If Joe fought better opponents and still maintained that 0, then folks would give him the respect he deserve.

since they didn't turn on him when he fought old weightshot eubank and crap bryon (who are both black in case you hadn't noticed), then you are talking **** as usual.

Can you stop bumping Calzaghe threads now? They've fallen back into the archives and been dead for months, sometimes years, there's no need to bring this multitude back to the front pages. Leave them to rest in their graves and move on.

It's because Britain finally has a GOAT (SM division) and this in turn makes Americans feel threatened and in turn feel they have to hate on him.:D
