As opposed to Americans who are finally realising that in a country of ever increasing obesity and your level of poor people is rivalling that of the third world, you need to place yourself on an imaginary pedastal above all and keep peddling that Wilder is a legit contender. Calzaghe is recognised for what he was, a great fighter, too many soft touches on his record, but when he stepped up, he won. Done
It's because he left the sport when he obviously still had a lot more miles left in him. He felt he was declining in skill, he felt he wasn't going to get any better and was only going to get worse, he'd said so before he fought Kessler in 2007 and set himself the boundary of one more year as an active fighter before he walked away, but he showed enough against the world-class Kessler and still-elite Hopkins to establish himself as one of the top fighters in the world, and he looked brilliant against the shot-Jones (a B-level fighter) after the first round knockdown, so he'd have been able to continue fighting at the top for a few more years. He had unfinished business with Glen Johnson, he had Antonio Tarver and Chad Dawson waiting in the wings, he had Froch desperate for a fight, and even Hopkins hanging around wanting a rematch, and probably more. He had many options, many fights he could have taken, many he could have won and many he could have used to prove himself an all time great but he chose to take none of them. It is Calzaghe's failure to take the big fights that would have been good for the casual viewer, and his refusal to fight on when he still had enough in his tank to do so, that leave you with a feeling of unfulfill potential and ability, and makes you think he wasted his career, and thus results in the continuation of Calzaghe-based threads popping up regularly.
Oh, Christ Almighty behave. This pseudo-psychoanalysis says more about you and your prejudices than the supposed psyche of Britons.
Nailed it? What? A load of projected bile and invective against Britain and its inhabitants is supposed to be construed as an impartial analysis? Do me a favour...
Because trolls like to make of him one of the best fighters ever, while he clearly doesnt have the case to be the best from Britain forget about the world!!
I'm from the UK and I find this hilarious and probably true..... He wasn't English though he was Welsh. Other than that I can't argue. Good work
The guy was blatantly trolling in an attempt to get a rise out of someone, yet you agree with it, he probably doesn't even believe it himself. atsch I think the thing about Calzaghe is that it's difficult to see just how good he was/could have been because he didn't step up to the elite level until so late, he was clearly a top level fighter #2 P4P but is also an easy target for ridicule as he could have achieved and tested himself so much more.
The only reason people haven't completely forgatten about him is because there are 5 or 6 people that keep making threads about him because they can not deal with the fact noone cares about him.
people keep making threads about him because americans have a hard time dealing with the fact that Joe beat Hopkins and RJJ and retired 46-0.
