Well im European and i still could not care less about him. He made a very clear decision to line his pockets and not go for greatness. All power to him but he can't complain then that noone cares about his legacy, i assume that is why he became a cokehead.
Yeah i don't have to work for 3 more hours and seeing some Joe fans getting all riledup is always entertaining. Always endsup the same way... almost everyone says they don't care about him and noone buys that he could beat the ancient fighters he preyed on way passed their prime. So enjoy bringing up the same threads time after time and ill be amused giving the same response.
Every single response (including this one) shows why people still talk about Joe Calzaghe, some reasoned, some measured, but mostly the usual ******ed shite.
I am American and was a pretty big fan of his while he was still active. The guy was great to watch and always came to bring it and never stopped punching. Outside the Hopkins fight the guy was always impressive in the ring I think its just a lot of bitter Hopkins and Jones fans who perpetuate the Calzaghe hate I mean I bet Joe would lose to both on their best days but does that mean he should suffer for it? If he never fought them no matter what stage of their careers the hate for him would probably be worse I mean people should watch his Kessler fight and tell me they arent a fan
Kessler is the only fight i could tolerate and where i saw him actually make some tactical adjustments and not just up his work rate from windmill to extra windmill. NOONE thought he should have fought Roy though as everyone knew he was shot to absolute ****. I don't even like Roy but it was pretty obvious to see. Watching Joe fight though in general was just torture to the eye, just the absolute most gastly punching technique in the history of boxing.
It is because he was an immensely talented boxer who didn't fight the fights he should have done so it has left a lot of debates. Some people rated him as the 2nd best fighter p4p when he retired (including mayweather who himself was number 1). Not many fighters go out rated so highly. People say when he beat Hopkins that Hopkins was past his prime but arguably Hopkins fought his best fights and had his best wins just before and just after he lost to joe. Before he fought lacy everyone thought lacy would annihilate him yet he schooled him and some would say destroyed the air of confidence that made lacy the fighter that he was. The thing is calzaghe fought a few top fighters but not as many as he should have done. When he did, he always looked good but because he didn't do it enough he left it open for debate.
Was a good fighter, every fighter gets disrespected, especially the ones that have achieved a lot. Just shows how most aren't really boxing fans, just pick favorites and hate on others regardless.
Calzaghe threads are amongst the most amusing to read the mere mention of the guy brings the same names time and time again stating how irrelevant he was or how no one cares who he was. Post after post and page after page every single time.
And yet you read every one of those threads and post in every one of them You're sour and can't deal with the fact that Super Joe is 46-0 and beat the **** out of Hopkins/Roy/Kessler/Lacy/Eubank/Reid/among many others It's ok. It's hard to accept for some people.
