Nah :happy There is no blueprint to beat Joe Calzaghe. That's a fact. No one in the history of SMW/LHW could have beaten him
Slightly younger version of Hopkins that could throw 10 punches more per round would have won easily, it would have shifted a bunch of close rounds. Much younger version shuts him out and most likely stops him. Thats the blueprint right there.
Yes, it was Joe who burst the bubble. The U.S. fans were looking for their next big thing, and he fitted the bill. He was strong, exciting, and had a great left hook. But it's my opinion, that he'd have gotten exposed the first time he faced a great boxer with speed, and good footwork. It was a great performance by Joe, but I think had Taylor or Roy fought him first, the exact same thing would have happened. A boxer will beat a fighter the majority of the time.
Calzaghe took his zero but thats it. These clowns saying Joe's victims were never the same is nonsense. That is my point. Talyor was coming off two loses, one by brutal knock out. Lacy was coming off a win. The only reason Lacy lost that fight was because Talyor was a far superior boxer , not because Joe took his zero. Lacy had shockingly bad footwork and defence and it was luck that Joe got to him first. The same goes for Kessler.
Ha! We both know that a peak version of Roy would have beaten him convincingly had they fought. But we also know that Joe would NEVER have fought a peak version of Roy. :good
Guys, please let it go. There are a handful of posters who can't discuss anything else and make all these threads, then bump them when they aren't on the front page. If we stop obliging them, they will go away. 99% of the boxing world realizes Joe was a joke who admitted he wanted easy fights. Don't let the 1% keep dominating the board.
I am pretty sure Joe knows this himself... I have read enough statements by him to at least warrant the suspicion that he knew Roy would beat him.. And as to fighting him, Joe pretty much said word for word that he wouldn't, back when Roy was the best.
:good Do you remember the build up to the Kessler fight? Setanta Sports made him sound like the Terminator Ha! My mates who are casual fans, looked at him and his unbeaten record in awe.
Ha! I enjoyed reading Headbanger's post, it made me laugh. I'm sure he'll come back and try and destroy my version.
Stop Calzaghe? Rofl. NO version of Jones/Hopkins/Toney could have stopped Joe. Joe was too smart, adapted too well, work rate was way too high, skills were also way too polished, intangibles were all there. There was no possible way to beat him.
I can actually see peak Jones getting a mid rounds to late TKO.. I don't think stylistically Joe's slug it out style at a high pace would be a good thing agaisnt a much faster much more powerful Roy Jones...He would have been hit and hurt at some point, and Roy used to be one of the best finishers in boxing. Joe would have to make the same decision many others did, keep coming at Roy and most likely get knocked out, or back off and try to see the final bell. I wouldn't favor Hopkins or Toney stopping him, but I would pick the best versions of the two to beat him. If you think there was really no possible way to beat Joe, there is no helping you. I saw a beatable fighter when watching some of his fights. Especially Old Man Hopkins. Had Joe fought more of the generatiions' elites while they were prime, you would have seen him beat, I guarentee it.
Welsh fans are the deluded ones and I'd even go as far to say Northern englanders are deluded c's too overrating fighters like Ricky Hatton.Don't lump in Wales with England they are completely different it's like saying just because the people of ohio overrated kelly pavlik that represents the entire nation.
