I tend to agree with this, JMM has underrated foot and handspeed but I think it was his perfect timing that enabled him to hang with Pac.
mab and jmm do not have similar styles. mab was a pressure fighter in julio cesar chavez's mold and hailed the next chavez before his loss to jones. he turned boxer puncher afterwards. jmm's best punches are his right hand and left uppercut which he uses equally. imo i think jmm is not really that fast and a past his prime mab is actually quicker than jmm, but jmm has great timing and figures out or times his opponents punches, that is why he might give away the first rounds and is a slow starter, he is a bonafide counterpuncher. mab is also a lefty, but does not fight as a southpaw, but rather orthodox like miguel cotto. mab was always for the most part the aggressor, but vs. offensive fighters like morales, hamed, and pacman he was forced at times to be a counterpuncher, but vs. anyone else he is the aggressor
Good question. The simple answer; TIMING. The true answer; involves the timing element, with the 'Go-Go Gadget' combinations grounded from the explosive, flexible, and aggressive forward bursts of Marquez coupled with the retreat and reset tendencies of Pacquiao - the real synthesis/genesis of it all. Barrera for all he is, likes to err on the side of caution and conservatism moving his body frame in transition (where Pacquiao is most vulnerable) and doesn't extend himself enough, literally and figuratively, to catch Pacquiao on the end of his shots the way that Marquez can. Pacquiao is always getting skewered in between stations - when he's getting skewered. He's really not that stupid at range or on the inside, despite what some people may think of Pacquiao's RIQ. It's not just about "taking chances" against Pacquiao, if you want to beat him it's absolutely mandatory.
