What is it with people getting so offended by trash talk?

I mean, it is trash talk after all!? It's nothing but show, entertainment and marketing and was always part of the game. No boxer will ever genuinely badmouth another boxer if it doesn't serve the purpose of raising the attention for the fight which benefits both boxers involved. Hell, nobody wants to see two good guys in the ring anyway, so creating the illusion of one guy being the antagonist can lead to some exciting bouts.

I can see why casuals would get riled up by silly antics outside the ring but we're hardcores here, aren't we? Yet, a VAST majority seems to be incapable of reading between the lines of trash talk.

I seriously see NO downsides to trash talk whatsoever. It's good 99% of the time and usually benefits both fighters and fights without preceeding trash talk often lack some tension.

The way boxing is now (and perhaps has been for most of the time), only a small percentage of boxers can actually live from their income which is why being an entertainer is part of the sport - no doubt about it.

Because trash talk is for children or Americans.

Its not seen in other countries or other sports.

Take a look at rugby and football.

Entertain in the ring not out of it sells miles more tickets.

its embarassing when a fighter like Stevens talks so much shite before fighting GGG then barely throws a punch.

Keep it clean outside of the ring and go like Hell in it.

    RIP Gatti.

So you think sending GGG a picture of a coffin is good for the sport?

It's insensitive but if it hypes the fight, why not. :huh You seem to be a little too emotionally attached to Golovkin, aren't you? Bro it's just trash talk and your man crush benefitted from it financially. There was virtually no downside to it.

It built interest for the fight, I doubt anyone would of been sufficiently offended by it to NOT watch the fight, hell these type grudges bring in the more casual fans. Insensitive, completely... Bad for boxing? No

People die in this sport thats whys its not good , and its not a GGG thing. Haye wearing T shirts ripping the heads off the K brothers isnt good either.

Its a class thing and trash talking is for trailer trash nothing more.

Americans might fight it funny , its probably down to their average IQ's , but Europeans just shake our heads in disappointment.

trash talks are ok, help sell the fight.

what is disappointing is the one doing the talking wouldnt even attempt to try do what he has been saying.

trash talk your opponent to death but do or at least try to do it in the ring even if you lose.

Thats the response I was hoping for.

Get a rebuttal that you cannot handle then send me a childish icon.

You are too emotionally invested in boxers you like. You seem to take insults directed at random ass boxers who would never give a fuck about you if you dropped dead on the spot as if they were directed at you. Remember, BOTH BOXERS BENEFIT. NONE of the insults are genuine - hell, you could make a case for the trash talk not being directed at the opponent but rather at the potential audience, the media and so forth. THEY are the actual recepient of it and they are to react to it.
It's terrific marketing, it sells fights, it raises attention - there are no downsides. Other than your hurt feelings that another 'merikuhn boxer insulted your wet dream surfer boy. Get over it.

Ive been watching boxing for over 30 years and do you know what really sells ???

Not the ****ing trash talk , its great fights , knockouts , upsets.

If more fighters understood this and put it all on the line in the ring rather than talking outside of the ring then the sport wouldnt be dieing.

    Less talk more walk.

I somewhat agree with you, but like with Stevens, most recent cases of over the top trash talk have backfired badly. A guy like Stevens looks multiple times worse when he looks like he caught a glimpse of the grim reaper himself after that 2nd round knockdown, then is outclassed rest of the fight.
And then there's Broner. The backlash is hilarious when it's taken too far and goes wrong.

Trash talk sells. It's just not up for debate. The fact that you get so riled up by it is hilarious. I don't buy your "I've been watching boxing for 30 years" nonsense. You've probably started with the Klitschkos otherwise I don't see how you made it through the 80s and 90s and their ridiculously trash talking boxers.
