Any news on his next move? The guy has all the talent in the world, and it's already over two months since his demolition of Demsey McKean and still no fights scheduled.
Seen rumours of Charles Martin - a bit of a step up from McKean - coming from a good journeyman to a weak-mid gatekeeper. Martin is a bit rubbish but a fight would make sense as it is so so stupid to rush someone like Itauma, you can't sell yourself out. Fighting the likes of Whyte, Bakole, Zhang soon would be a very very bad idea. Itauma needs to build up his reputation over time, and earn respect, you can't sell out and take the shortcut and as a result lose the respect of the press and the people.
He's 19 give him some room. He's not going to beat Tyson's youngest champ record at this point so just get some rounds in. Once you step up like that it's not really possible to step back down - bad for career. I say take on the Charles Martins, Hughie Fury, Pulev types in the division now. Some name value and entertaining fights that he should win
He said that he is willing to fight Hrgovic, it would be a challenge to some extent, but Hrgovic's inactivity would lead him to defeat...
Rumoured to be out in May, 5 months between fights following a one round blowout is a long time at his age though.. especially if it’s a weaker opponent named. I appreciate opponents want big bucks to face him but Frank should be trying to get him out every 2-3 months at this point.
He should fight some low level guys as mentioned above. Wait for the retirement of usyk and then work his way to a title. By then Zhang, Fury and AJ are gone. We would be left with Parker Dubois, Kabayel and him.
They're probably running out of low-risk old men for him to bash on. His Mike Tyson grift is starting to wear off and they're probably looking to find a new angle for him. They have a lot riding on him, so they're going to keep feeding him bums for the meanwhile.
If you look at everyone ranked higher than him on boxrec they are all fairly tough opponents from here on in. I can’t see him fighting any of those for awhile unless it’s Wardley. Even the European champion is ranked lower than itauma which would be a good fight but nobody really knows him so probably doesn’t sell. How about itauma vs Franklin?
Better for him to fight frequently and get a good look at different styles. The worst thing for a guy like Itauma is to be thrown in against a cagey veteran with a style he can't overcome. He should also look to break his opponents down, instead of flattening them with single shots. There will be opponents with solid beards and good defence that need to be dismantled over the fight.
I think Charles Martin is good next step up for him, if he beats him well it shows he's quite a bit above Anderson who was another hot prospect. Where as if he steps up to far to fast he risks a loss which will set his career and reputation back years. Hes still young, he should enjoy the ride at this point, it'll all get serious with a lot more pressure before he knows it.
