I'm from Taylor's hometown and heard him on a local radio interview after the Froch fight. He was asked about his stamina and how he addressed it in his training camp, and he responded that he ran six miles EVERY day, and said that was a first for him in any training camp. He is aware of his stamina issue and made an effort to push himself harder than ever to correct it. HOWEVER, he was then asked how quickly he tried to finish the six miles, and he said, "Under an hour... under an hour, and I'm fine." Now, I'm not a professional athlete... hell, I'm not even a runner... but six miles an hour seems SLOW for someone training for a professional sport. IIRC, Froch said he did 5-6 miles a day in about HALF that time leading up to the Taylor fight. It's obvious cardio is not his strength. He strikes me as less of an endurance athlete and more of an explosive athlete who is extremely quick and dangerous over short periods but not built for constant movement, much like American football players. I'm not sure there's anything he can do at 30 years old to change that. It would definitely help though if he did roadwork outside of training camps, and made an effort to stay in shape year-round like Hopkins or Mayweather.
His defense, stamina, and offense pace. Offensively he needs to let his hands go more and go for the KO when opponent is in trouble. Defensively he needs to move his head and have his glove up, particularly against the right hand. As for his stamina, needs to do more road work and sparring.
I would say his footwork. I here all the time how a great an athlete Taylor is. It doesn't mean squat if he has no clue how to move around the ring. If you compare Taylors footwork to guys like Hopkins, Calzaghe, Mayweather, Dawson, and Ali. He looks like a zombie. Plodding around the ring like his shoes are covered in concrete. The guy needs to take dance classes or something.
He fought two really tough hard hitting fighters who never give up. Taylor did a great job of boxing in his three losses. How many can do that?
Yes, that says it all! :good I remember in a post fight interview Taylor was grilled about all the mistakes he made against Hopkins. When asked if he would start training immediately for the rematch, he replied in the negative saying that he would go to camp about 6 weeks before the fight. Was that enough time to correct his mistakes? With the benefit of hindsight we know it wasn't. Taylor isn't serious about his training simply because he isn't serious about boxing.
You're comments stem from ignorance as you don't know JT. You take a look at JT's body for every one of his fights and tell me he isn't serious about boxing. :nut
That is damn slow. My 13 year old girl runs the quarter mile in track and she runs 5 miles every monday and does it around 40 min, my guess is she could run another mile in less then 20 mins.
JT has a lot of wasted movement in the ring. Plus, it looks like he tenses up when he tries to throw hard combos. Needs to focus on his breathing.
Genetically Taylor is obviously a sprinter, and not a marathon runner. No amount of cardio work will change genetics. What he can do is manage his stamina, most of the great fighters could pace themselves and always found ways of resting during the fight if they were starting to tire.
