Think if Joe G came across as an alright guy he wouldn't get slated as much, but he is an absolute door handle! :asz:

I don't think he's a very good scorer of fights, he seems to think his fighters will get the Mayweather style rounds by soaking pressure. As Big Daddy said, his reaction to how far Quigg was behind to Frampton was hilarious.
I think he has took a couple of fighters above their limit which was impressive, the improvement of Crolla being a prime example.
I do however agree with a lot on here that he can only go so far with fighters, I think Quigg can be used better, he should have gone out and attacked Frampton! And I think his current tatics will get Callum Smith in trouble at elite level. It may be a poor division but the likes of Degale, Jack and possibly Groves have the knack of winning close fights.

No head movement and no plan b for any of his fighters - the Joe G blueprint.

Callum Smith has zero head movement too , he is following the joe g startegy to a tee

he relies on he's size, power and long reach to beat fighters, he may well pick up a title at 168 but anyone who thinks him of burton will get anywhere near a world title at 174 are deluded

He's like a World War 1 general. "Over the top you go boys, run straight at the machine guns with your hands up..."

I feel Callum Smith's boxing style shows up JG's limitations as a trainer. Here's a guy who is massive at the weight, tall with a long reach and still Joe has him marching forward, standing in range with a high tight guard waiting to counter. Admittedly, he's got a great counter left hook but he can throw that off the back foot too as he showed against Mohoumadi and Rocky. So he has it in the locker but, no, Joe mainly wants him staying in the pocket.

You'd think he would at least have tried boxing a fight at long range behind the jab by now?

My fear for Smith is when he comes up against boxers with better footwork, he's going to lose a lot of rounds waiting to get his shots off (just like Quigg did against Frampton) and then finding the target has moved away. He rarely ever punches with his opponent, he's too predictable which is another trait of the Gallagher stable.

Quigg, surely the only fighter in history to hold two world belts neither of which were won in the ring.

As if he's not gonna be in Liam Smith's corner when he's fighting one of the best P4P fighters in the world

My point was that Smith should have flown over earlier but Matchroom had a show the Saturday before. Callum and Paul Smith pinched some money boxing journeymen and Gallagher couldn't not be in the corner with the cameras there.

If he was really like that i'm sure his fighters would have seen through that and he wouldn't have such a large stable.

I wonder if you spoke to Crolla and Quigg and others in private would they have the same high opinion of Joe s ability as they might have had a year or so ago.

The penny Might be starting to drop with at least some of them.
He needs to bring in some new co trainer, new blood, new brains....he seems to be a one man band .....a bit of a control freak maybe....

hes a bit of a Harry redknapp I reckon. Good at the mental/mood sort of things, gets a good morale going but not great at the tactics

Paul and Callum smith had "gimmee" fights - I can't see why Liam couldn't fly over earlier.
Quigg now admits that the tactics were wrong for the Frampton fight.
