Ruiz was the man. Gotta respect a man who was usually outclassed in athlerticism and power in every fight yet still managed to come away victorious and be a legit multi champ by doing it the hard way and fighting/winning his way back to title shots. I didn't like him much at the time but in retrospect Ruiz deserves big props for winning so many gun fights with nothing but a butterknife and a high ring IQ
Holyfield fights. Ruiz is probably underrated. A guy defends his titles that often he has to be somewhat good. I just don't know how he deals with a Lewis right, although I understand he sparred Lennox. So who knows.
that last left hook from Tua was unnecessary. Reminds me of some of Ray Mercer's knockouts. Ray would have a guy out cold and still crank up one big punch.
I think he may have given Lewis some style issues for a few rounds, but ultimately Lewis puts him to sleep.
Peep this. You get knocked down twice. Get points deducted for bull**** holding calls. Become the first fighter in the history of boxing to get your trainer kicked out in the middle of a championship fight. And you still sweep the final 9 rounds to win the fight. Talk about will, determination, and never say die attitude. His victory over Golota was special. HBO should dedicate a Legendary Nights for that Heavyweight Championship fight. Great performance
His win over Jimmy Thunder was when everyone stood up and took notice, "maybe this kid HAS TO CHEAT TO WIN", was a often heard about Ruiz at that time. Corrected a slight error for you there mate. Just one of the many reports you can easily find about that fight
Ruiz is vastly underrated, He faught everyone who was put in front of him no matter how much better he knew the other guy was and would still work his ass off and get the W most of the time. Sure he didnt have one of the most exciting styles around but the man Fought his fight and became the first (and only) hispanic Heavyweight World Champ. That alone is worth an entrance to the HOF.
Ruiz was the ultimate boxing troll. He was the biggest mad maker on ESB for years. Him and Corey Spinks
